XP Professional Boots Very Slow

Question

I installed XP professional over XP Home Edition.  There were no errors during the installation.  The boot sequence takes forever, as long as 10 minutes, before the desktop appears and the 'music jingle' appears.  Once the boot sequence has finished, some services work and some are not working.  Local applicaiton launching and operation seems fine and fast.  Local printer works fine.  Internet access can be established but browserrs and network applications can not establish connections (DNS??)..through 56k dialup.   Is there a better way to install XP professional? Is there a preparation of the system I should have done to rid it of XP Home Edition before installing XP professional?   thanks in advance..chet

If the system worked properly before the update, a clean install should correct your present problems. You can do this with an upgrade CD. See this. (A clean install is always preferable to an upgrade install.)
