Versions of SQL Server 2000 that run on Windows XP Professional also run on XP Home (see
this). Should you desire to upgrade to XP Professional you can do so with a upgrade CD but it is strongly recommended that a clean install be done rather than upgrading over an existing version of XP Home. A clean install can be done using an upgrade CD.
I recently purchased One Desktop 4600 with Windows XP Professional loaded and two Desktop 2400's with Window's XP Home addition loaded, my technical support inadvertently took off the Windows XP Home and put on Windows 2000 professional on the two 2400's.
I need Windows XP Professional on all of the machines.
Can I upgrade the two 2400's with Win 2000 professional to Win XP professional, if so how many versions of software must I purchase for the two machines? Can I buy two Win XP Professional license's or do I have to buy two XP upgrades?
I of course have the XP professional software that came with the 4600.
You can upgrade the two systems with Win2K Professional to XP Professional. You will need to purchase two XP Professional Upgrade CDs. You can do a clean install (recommended) with an XP Upgrade CD.
Can I use the CD that came with the 4600 which was preloaded with XP Pro?
When you say a clean install, I assume you mean I should reformat the hard drive and install XP and all other programs from scratch? Is that precautionary or something you would highly recommend?
