xp reinstall errors

while trying to do a clean reinstall xp home on my inspiron 6000 i keep getting errors that setup cannot copy file. my system is a inspiron 6000 with i g of ram, 80 g hd and 1.86 pentium m.

checked ram and hd with dell diagnostics all passed. used hitachi' drive fitness test (dft) and all is ok. tried windows memory test and all ok there.

used hitachi's dft and kill disk to erase hd and start from scratch.

put windows xp home cd in (xp home with service pack 3 oem that i purchased) and all looked good. formatted hd and stated to copy files. stopped over 15 times saying file cannot be loaded, enter for try again or esc to ship or f3 to cancel set up. not sure what is going on or what i can try. sometines hitting enter many time makes the install continue. there are some files that nothing goes on. so started from the beginning and the same errors. tried another xp home cd and the same results.

computer was running slow so i that is why i wanted to reinstall xp.

Enter the bios and change the "Sata Operation" to "compatible"

Then follow this guide to install drivers correctly once you get XP installed

Try reseating the hard drive (pull it out then put it back in).  If you are not sure how to do this, the service manual has the instructions.

Have you run a memory diagnostic (Dell Diags or memtest86)?  It sounds like either a memory issue or the Windows disk is scratched up really badly, or maybe a dust bunny in the optical drive.
