xp sp2 question..desktop will not display image...

I start my computer this morning and my desktop image was gone..I go to desktop in my display properties section and it will not allow me to do anything.I cannot put the original image back up.I can't even use the stock images that xp supplies??? Even the browse button is grayed out I cannot use it at all. It's like it is locked up..Even if I go to the image I want right click it -the window pops up..I select "set image as destop" nothing happens...Must be some kind of patch issue ,my wife's computer at her office is doing the samething..What is going on and how do I fix it...

Maybe this

"This problem occurs when a registry key is set to hide or to lock the display settings on the computer. The registry key can be set by an administration policy or by malicious software."

Most likely malware.

Use Spybot Search and Destroy to remove malware. (hopefully)

If you still have issues, be patient for a response., they are over worked on the Hijack board.

Go to this forum http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack  and read the RED link at the top and then post your log on that forum along with what you have stated here, also post the Model of Dell you have and the OS Version.
