XP upgrading to Vista

Since I'm just doing an upgrade from my XP to Vista Home Premium, will I still need to back up all of my files? Or will my files still be there after the upgrade. And I also wanted to know what the difference really is between Vista 32-Bit and 64-Bit.

BrandonXcore,
Just for a little confidence boost, I did the upgrade from XP home to Vista Home Premium. The upgrade went smooth as silk. Everything was where it was suppose to be, both user accounts, pictures, documents and files. I must mention though, weeks prior to the Vista upgrade, I did a clean reinstall of XP, I think that helped a lot by getting rid of all the bloatware that was on the computer. I did back up my photos, documents to CD just in case.

Very glad to hear that Roger, as for me I did a system restore a few weeks back to turn it back to factory settings in preparation for Vista. I'm also glad to hear that all of your files turned up! It made me feel a lot more confident about this upgrade.

Make sure you run the Windows Upgrade Advisor before you start the install. It's on the vista dvd. It will tell you what will and won't work in vista. You should remove any software and upgrade or remove any hardware on that list. It would have helped if you had given your specs. Vista does not do well with older computers with minimal hardware, memory. For instance, some older sound cards will not work with vista and must be replaced.

My specs are
Dimension E520 Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz
1GB DDR667 PC5300
Dell 20" Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
I'm using onboard audio with SigmaTel drivers which I know I'll have to update
eVGA 8400GS 256MB DDR2 Graphics Card (I know I'll have to update the drivers on that too)
TEAC Card reader

And does anyone know if there are tons of bugs on Vista currently? Has anyone spotted any? Is it stable enough to use until SP2 comes out? Or should I just wait until SP2 comes out?
