XP/IE optional underlined keyword hyperlinks

Certain keywords on my webpages have suddenly become underlined hyperlinks to "helpful" further reading (the words 'personal site' now link to eHarmony.com).

I know this is a new MS feature of IE on XP (and I think it's despicable) but I don't know what it's called. More to the point, I can't find the setting to turn it off.

It could be one of two things. If its only on selected web pages its probably Intellitext, an advertising service some web sites are adopting. If you visit a site that employes it, some words will be highlighted as hyperlinks to ads. Ther is no way to turn this off. Tom's Hardware is one such site and has a good explanation of it:

If its on every site, you have a nefarious program called TOPtext. If you've dowloaded Kazaa or other peer to peer software you probably have it. You can read about one person's experiences with it here:

I would also run AdAware and Spybot S & D and post your problem in the Special Interest - Virus/Spyware forum where the mavins there may have some expert advice for you.  Also, check your add/remove programs to see if Toptext is listed.

"...If its only on selected web pages..."

Nope. I even see it on personal webpages I coded myself.

"... If you've dowloaded Kazaa or other peer to peer software..."

Nope. I avoid any downloads I'm not positive of. And I'm not interested in most of that stuff.

Could it happen just by visiting the wrong type of sites? Perhaps, if I ... I mean, if my friend ... visited some sites ... from, say, the wrong side of the tracks?

I've done a Norton antivirus scan and it caught and deleted a bunch of adware threats. A subsequent scan came up clean as a whistle.

"...run AdAware and Spybot S & D..."

Installed adAware, thought it was doing its thing. Also thought Norton should ahve caught anything.

"...post your problem in the Special Interest - Virus/Spyware..."

Will do.

"...check your add/remove programs to see if Toptext is listed. ..."

I have. It's not. (Wait, unless I misread it as 'Topstyle', which is installed for Homesite. I'll check).
