XPS 400 Vista upgrade problems

I bought my XPS 400 back in February 2006, and made sure it would be powerful enough to upgrade to Vista when it came out.

I have tried to upgrade to Vista numerous times and each time have had a problem during the installation that either reverted me back to XP or required me to re-install XP.

I just got my hands on a Dell Vista Upgrade Assistant DVD and ran it on my system. As I already knew, all my hardware is powerful enough. But, what the DVD says in incompatable is my model which is listed as DXP051.

Anyone else had the same problem trying to upgrade an XPS 400 to Vista? Anyone been able to do it on this system? Any ideas on what the issue is? Is it a BIOS issue? Any help would be appreciated!

I also ran the Dell Readiness tool online and here is the result I got from that:

It may be a bios issue, check your version. A07  is the latest.

A04 had these improvements, which are also included in A07.
1. Add support for newer processors
2. Add Sigmatel preparations for Windows Vista.
3. Improve boot menu support for Quick Resume technology.
4. Improve processor detection code.
5. Improve fan tables for newer processors.

Yes, one of my installation tries was a clean install. I am attempting again after making sure I had updated as many drivers as possible. So far everything is going OK, but it is usually late in the process that I get blue screens, error messages or booted back to XP.

I'm hopeful that it will finally work this time.
