The drivers are here:
http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp
Go to 2nd. Gen SATA WD CaviarSE-7200, and you will see that your model number is listed there. Try downloading "WD Serial ATA RAID Controller Card Driver". I'm not exactly sure how Vista does it, but in XP when you do a fresh install you can press F6 to install separate RAID drivers. The website explains that you have to extract the .zip to a floppy disk.
It should be noted that this driver is only for XP: it might work on Vista, but I would contact Dell about their drivers for it. They should support an upgrade that they support.
Thanks - I greatly appreciate the research effort, but I don't think I have a WDC Serial ATA RAID Controller Card - I believe the XPS 600 RAID controller is the nForce4 controller. Second, the date of the driver on the WDC site is May, 2004, which is much older than the build date of my XPS 600, so it would not appear to be a newer driver in any case.
Are you attempting to install a beta version of Vista? RC1 did not have the Raid drivers for the Nforce controller. RC2 and RTM do and both installed with no problem on my XPS600 with Raid 0 set up.
Hi - that seems like another lazy support response - there aren't any new drivers listed there that would seem to address the problem. Thanks for posting, though.
One more thing, I did have the drivers from the link above on a memory stick pluged in the computer, don't know if that made a difference? Took everything that was downloaded out of the folders and on to the main stick.
Yes same here, so before I threw the computer out the window I decided to do a clean install from the upgrade DVD to see if that made a difference and it worked, It is a total pain in the as you have to install all your software again, but I got it to work thats the main thing. It also stores all your old stuff from XP in a folder called windows old, but I would still suggest to back it up on DVD or a external hard drive.
So the joy of installing all the software again awaits me tonight :smileysad:
Thanks for the link, but that didn't solve the problem. Vista still won't install and displays the same mysterious RAID reference to the WDC SATA drive.
