XPS 8500, hibernate doesn't work after Windows 10 update
I have an XPS 8500, purchased in 2012, running non-supported Windows 10 Pro. I'm having a problem that previously occurred after the Creators update, which I "solved" simply by rolling back the update. Windows just updated again and I'm having the problem again. The problem is that when I hibernate, the system seems to be hibernating correctly, but then when I power it back up, instead of resuming from hibernate, it does a cold boot. Notably, I don't get any error message about Windows not having shut down correctly. It looks like a normal cold boot.
I've found other threads about this on numerous forum, but none have ever offered a definitive solution. They all seem to peter out, with the OP never returning to say the problem got solved.
I have tried turning off Fast Start, but the problem still occurs. When I attempt to resume (i.e., actually boot up) after hibernating, I find two seemingly relevant errors in the Event Viewer System Log:
The previous system shutdown at 4:14:11 PM on 8/11/2018 was unexpected. (Event ID 6008)
and
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. (Event ID 41)
I posted about this on the Microsoft forums, and tried every suggestion people had, but nothing worked. Even doing an in-place reinstall of Windows ("Reset This PC" from the Recover options) didn't fix the problem. The last person who posted in that thread suggested that there must be others with the same problem, as this is not a custom computer. Has anyone else encountered this problem and managed to solve it?

Although Dell does not (officially) support Win 10 on this model it should still work as I see hardware older than this working OK (at least the user is satisfied with the operation). However, at some point Win 10 may stop updating versions as they eliminate older hardware support. The XPS 8300, as reported on this forum, will not upgrade to the 1803 version. I've seen posts on the tenforums.com of some older hardware not being able to upgrade to 1803 version.
A search on the tenforums.com does not come up with much about hibernate errors, and what is there is very old or for a specific Win 10 version.
With the errors you show, does it do a "regular" shutdown (or restart) without errors? Or with a Win 10 version older than the 1803?
