Dear Philip Yip,
Many many thank! was looking looking and waiting waiting out perfect dell to solve this issue, since September 2012 their download driver service really went bad. Lots of drivers cannot be download beside for wondows 8.
Btw, I had upgraded my Dell XPS 14 L421X myself to Windows 8, upgrade option doesn't work as its went to "blue" screen mode during finalize installation. I have to install clean from DVD media with Intel RST drivers. So far already running for few days, honestly not happy at all. Blue screen after one and another, I don't know its happen by software or not but I had WIndows 7 for years and never have one blue screen, now with windows 8 I have daily blue screen.
Best Regards,
Charlie.S.

Hi Charlie
You are very welcome.
I upgraded my XPS 8300 to Windows 8 and I have been experiencing no real issues. What do your bluescreens say?
Some others also mentioned the nVidea drivers causing some issues on other models: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/4677/p/19464877/20220358.aspx#20220358

Dear Philip Yip,
I had perform another reformat on my system and re-install everything one by one, found out is the System Machanic creating the issue with Active Care tools which automatic scan my system and rearrange stuff on my hard disk, sad that I had paid for 4 years license and cannot use it properly.
The blue screen mostly said something like IRQL_NON_PAGED_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS stuff happen most the time, after I uninstall the System Machanic Pro, not already run for days not one blue screen happen and run rather smooth.
Best Regards,
Charlie Seah.

Hi Charlie
Glad you got it sorted. I never trust such optimisation programs, I would recommend staying well clear from them. In my experience they do more damage than good. CCleaner and Defraggler are free and I haven't seen them damage a system.

Dell drivers from Dell are always quite outdated. Why use Dell's site ever to get drivers?
Dell shipped my new Windows 8 Pro XPS 8500 last Friday. It came with nVidia 660GTX driver from AUGUST and was not even a Windows 8 driver.
I went to nVidia site, installed their Java tool and let nVidia find the correct, latest driver. It was dated two days ago and was the first nVidia driver certified for Win 8.
Dell shipping a new computer with a video driver from Aug that wasn't even for Win 8 just shows you to never use Dell site to get your drivers.

Mele20 is right. I have been saying that Dell's drivers are never up-to-date; especially those not created by Dell. Even those created by Dell are not updated on a regular basis. Dell has a very small team dedicated to driver and BIOS updates.
:emotion-22::emotion-46::emotion-46::emotion-22::emotion-60: Get loaded - but NOT with Dell - get NVIDIA or other 3rd party manufacturer's drivers direct from the manufacturer.

I just received my new Windows 8 Pro XPS 8500 this week. It also has a nVidia 660GTX .... how could you tell the date of the driver was August and not even a Windows 8 driver?
Thanks!

Ann, you really need to go to the NVIDIA website to obtain the correct and most recent driver for your GeForce 660GTX graphics card. The specific download site is here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/49949 for the 306.97 Nvidia driver for Windows 8. Checkout my previous (and many other) posts relating to Nvidia graphics drivers. Dell does NOT have the most up-to-date Nvidia graphics drivers.
The release date of the driver is indicated on the driver description page (link above for 306.97). You also will see the Windows versions the driver is qualified for. BTW, you should always use a WHQL certified graphics driver. Go here for more information on WHQL drivers: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/26 Basically it means the driver is lab certified and suitable for the operating system indicated.
Additional useful information is provided on the NVIDIA Driver page. Also important the Release Notes and the Control Panel Guide are provided at the bottom of the driver page.

Please add your vote to this IdeaStorm Idea and leave a comment, the more votes Dell get the more likely they are to consider supporting more systems. I initially wrote just XPS/Alienware but you can add more information in the comments (on IdeaStorm).
IdeaStorm Ideas:
Reinstallation Media
• Windows 8 OEM .iso Download Link
• Windows XP, Vista, 7 OEM .iso Download Link
• Request Reinstallation DVD form [Rest of the World]
Windows 7 Availability
• Sell systems with a Windows 8 Professional license and Downgrade Rights to Windows 7 Professional Preinstalled with the ability to have both media
Supported Systems for Windows 8
• Increase Windows 8 BIOS Updates/Driver Availability on XPS/Alienware Systems
Windows 8 Start Menu
• Dell8 - Work Again with StarDock to Give Windows 8 a Proper Start Menu
Drivers and Downloads Improvements
• Driver ID Database for all Dell Drivers and Operating Systems
• Drivers and Downloads Page: Suggested Upgrades
• More of the "Dell FTP"/"Drivers and Downloads" and less of "My Dell Downloads"
• Digita Persona - Windows 8 Driver available from Drivers and Downloads
• Dell Touchpad Windows 8 Gesture Universal Driver
• Dell Wireless/Broadcom Universal Driver
• One Dell Quickset for All Dell Systems
System Configuration
• Less Cryptic Information under System Configuration
• Dell System Configuration Listing Not Helpful

I believe because I posted on this site I was targeted for a scam. I received a phone call this week, telling me that because I was a windows 8 registered user, I was getting the call ... my computer was at a severe security threat that would damage my computer .... and the techs would walk me through a process to fix the problem. .... even gave me a registration number when I told him I would be uncomfortable since I didn't know who he really was ... he hung up when I refused ... and told him I would investigate first myself and contact them later when I felt more secure ... later I saw on the internet this was a common scam .... BUT this is the only place I ever posted that I refered to having windows 8 ... just so you know ......

Sounds bad however I haven't seen any similar reports from other users on the community about this. The scammers for instance could just be saying Windows 8 to everyone hoping they get lucky. Its unfortunately quite a common scam as you say and they are likely to pick the latest OS as many users have just got it and are less sure about it giving them some leverage.

Hello. can you help me. During the windows 8 clean install it asks for drivers. It will not let me continue without them and I do not know what drivers it is wanting.
Thank you

Also be sure your system is supported for Win8. See here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/4677/t/19471669.aspx
