Virtualbox RDP Graphics Problem

Virtualbox RDP Graphics Problem

Hello all,

I am running Virtualbox on a headless Ubuntu server at my house and PocketCloud Pro on my iPad2. I have a Windows 7 VM on the server and I trying to RDP to that machine. I am not RDPing directly to Windows, rather I am using the VRDE server from Virtualbox. I have all the fancy graphics stuff on PocketCloud turned down/off. It lets me connect just fine to the machine over my home WiFi, but whenever I do anything portions of the screen go black. For example, when I bring up the start menu, it goes mostly black where the start menu is, and when I close the start menu out, the screen is black where the start menu was.

I have tried some of the other free RDP clients on the iPad and they don't have this problem, just PocketCloud.

Anyone know what the deal is here?

ETA: I have 2d and 3d acceleration turned off for this VM, the server has tons of processing power and memory(AMD Phenom II X6 3.2GHZ, 8GB DDR2 800). I only have ~32MB vram dedicated to this VM right now because that didn't make a difference when I was testing different settings. Also like I said, it doesn't do this on other free RDP programs such as iRdesktop. I am connecting over my local network which goes like this: Ipad Wireless-N>router 100mbit>switch gigE>server gigE. So the slowest speed in the line would be the 100 mbit port on the router, which is more than enough to handle this traffic. Also it doesn't do it when I connect to it from my desktop computer on the same network.

TIA for the help.

Mitch

Well I did some more playing around with this. I set it up so I could RDP right into the Windows VM directly and everything works fine on PocketCloud. So there has to be some sort of issue between the VirtualBox RDP server and PocketCloud. This will get me by for right now but if anyone has had this problem and knows of an issue it would be great to know.

Thanks for any help.

Mitch

Hello all.
Same problem for me (ipad2/Vbox 4.08/WinXP-Prof SP2):
- screen got black on activated buttons or menus
- virtual-guest-tools are installed (and the should be because the performance without them is really bad)
- screen looks ok then connecting from other Windows-PCs
- Problem does not occur connecting to an ubuntu 11.04-VM on the same host (looks like a problem with windows hosts that got a connection from pocketcloud :-(

Regards,

Klaus

Hey Suchitha thanks for responding. I am going to be honest it is Virtualbox 4.0.4 installed from the Oracle repo. I installed Oracles extension pack for it and that's all I have done as far as dedicated updates to VBox so there have been no USB specific updates that I know of.

I remember we did have an issue with extension pack. I think if you undo the extension pack it will work great. Can you please try it and see if that works ? if it a problem dont worry.
We will look into this . Thank you for your feedback.
