Accessing device variables from windows

Accessing device variables from windows

Hello all. Our school has just started with Wyse C10LE devices and a citrix xenn app backend running on server 2008 R2. I quite impressed with them so far and after playing around for 2 or 3 months ive got the basics sorted of how to use it all.

I was going to type a problem im facing at the moment but while typing it I thought id just ask the question without typing paragraphs of our setup. If you think its important to know ill update with what im trying to do and why.

While looking in wyse device manager I noticed you can add variable to the device info such as location, custom1, custom2 etc. Now what I want to know is, is there anyway to access this information in a citrix desktop sessions? What I want to achieve is to add a reg key into HKCU during logon based on the location variable in WDM. I don’t have a test network yet so I havnt messed around too much, however if anyone knows of anyway I can achieve this it would solve a lot of problems for us. It doesn’t even need to be that variable, it could be the mac address of the device or any UID that I can force a check against.

I pretty much want the user to logon and get put in the room (via reg key) that the device is in. At the moment there is a program installed that lets you choose a location after logon. However theres no way to check wheather they have actually chosen the right room or even a room at all using this method which is causing problems.

The only way ive seen that I could do it at the moment is to set up mac address filtering so the devices connect to a certain citrix server in the farm and then have a citrix server for every room which is unfeasible.
