Caps Lock issue on ThinOS

Hi all,

We are running the latest (9.4.2103) ThinOS on around 200 machines. A mix of 3040's and OptiPlex 3000's, connecting to RDS servers using the classic mode.

We have had an intermittent issue for several builds now, where if a user is entering their login details and uses the Caps Lock key for a character in their password, it sometimes clears the username field! They do not notice this and therefore are trying to log in with a blank username. I have seen this happen multiple times while shadowing, but frustratingly I can never reproduce it on a test system.  I can now reproduce this, see video below.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm trying to train the users to use the shift key instead (which they should be anyway in my opinion) but it's hard to get people out of something they have always done.

Any help or ideas appreciated!

A quick update to this:

I've been back and forward with Dell support and after some testing, a fix for this issue will now be included in the 2311 ThinOS build.

Hi.

Are you sure it is a caps lock the issue and not just they trying to login with invalid credentials?

If you try to login with the wrong credentials it will revert the username as well and depending the WMS settings this can be empty or the last username that successfully logged in.

What I believe is happening here because of using caps lock they sometimes enter the wrong password and try to login and ThinOS reverts the username and they do not notice it when trying to enter the password the second time.

What do you have set in WMS under "Login Experince" -> "Save Last Domain User" ? We have "Username only" .

Because of this we have sometimes the same issue with our users when they change their workplace.
They change the username and enter the password but if the password is wrong it will revert the username field back to the last username and they do not notice it and try to just enter the password again and again until they call us and I explain it to them.

A bit more info!

I can now reproduce this:

If a user fails to login with an incorrect username/password once, on the second attempt when turning off Caps Lock after typing a character (turning on is fine) it will clear the username.

@Jonicus

This is really strange.

I am not able to reproduce it on my system so this could be due to specific settings or something else in your environment. I use an Optiplex 3000TC.

By the way I noticed that now it doesn't revert the username anymore after a failed login attempt so you can ignore what I wrote above. Probably this behaviour was fixed / changed with some of the later releases.

For your issue I suggest you open a ticket with Dell. You shouldn't need a maintenance subscription if your device is under warranty.

Hi.

I was able to reproduce your issue. It is probably a bug but this happens only if you have Clear User option enabled in WMS (Login Experience -> Login Settings). If you disable this option it doesn't happen.

@zzomp Hi,

Thanks, I can confirm that stops it for me too.

I have raised a ticket with Dell, as although this workaround will be fine, I would rather it still clear after an incorrect attempt to stop repeated logins with incorrect usernames.

Hopefully can get it added to the known issues.

I don't know if this is related:

I have around 40 Optiplex 3000 devices and 20 3040 devices. All running version 9.4.2103.

They all have the problem that the capslock reverts after some time, but that's when the are already logged on the (2022) RDSH.

I downgraded 1 Optiplex 3000 to an older (2 versions) firmware, but the issue was still there.

I hope the 2311 update will fix this.

We have testes this with an RDS server and there is no change with the new update, is there a setting to activate this?
