Adding memory to XPS 8910

I just ordered 16GB of memory for my XPS desktop. After I install the memory stick and reconnect everything, what next? Do I need to install drivers? This is my first attempt at doing this type of thing myself.

Hi, @Villagescottie ,

Firstly, the "Express Code is usually regarded as "Personal Information - hence I think you should delete it!!

When you ordered the 16GB Memory, did you run any System-Checking Software to determine what is the suitable Memory Upgrade to use?

(Most main Memory Suppliers have a version of this Software).

This will confirm whether what you have purchased is suitable.

After that, you probably will need to check out the XPS-8910-desktop_service-manual to check which Memory Slot to use.

@Villagescottie You do not need to install drivers. It would help if you could answer @Anonymous questions, giving some details about the memory configuration before and after the  upgrade (such as the number and size of the memory modules you had and the number and size of the ones you added).

I ordered a Visiontek 16GB 288 pin memory stick. I have 16 GB of memory that came with the computer in 2016. The . Do you need additional details? Just let me know.

@Villagescottie The XPS 8910 uses 2133 MHz memory. If your XPS 8910 was configured like mine, the original memory module was installed in slot DIMM2 (white securing clip) and you should have installed the new memory in slot DIMM1 (also white securing clip). I suggest you download, install, and run CPU-Z to check your memory. The CPU-Z Memory tab should indicate a memory size of 32GB and a Channel # of Dual. The CPU-Z SPD tab (Slot #2) should indicate Manufacturer, Model #, Part #, and Ranks of your original memory. The CPU-Z SPD tab (Slot #4) should indicate the same information for your new memory. The Ranks of both memory modules should match. (My memory modules are Dual rank).

With regard to the Service Manual, the Memory configuration matrix does not show a 32GB configuration consisting of two 16GB memory modules. You should install the modules in slots with similar colored securing clips.

How do I delete or edit a post? Can't find that option anywhere.

You only have a short time after something is posted to edit it. I don't think you can delete it. If you are concerned about the Service Tag, I think you have to wait for the moderator to edit it out.
