Dimension XPS Gen4(Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005)

I brought out of storage a XPS Dimension XPS Gen4. Its missing all the CD's that came with it. The one problem I'm having now is that it won't connect to the internet. I know Dell doesn't support this system any more. I want to keep it in its present condition. Not looking to increase memory etc. etc. I'm assuming that I wound only need to update the operation system to a Windows 8. I just want to keep the computer as a backup and not spend much money If I don't need to. Any suggestions?

This system does NOT HAVE a cpu that will do NX, CMPXCG 128, LAHF, SAHF.

Windows 8.0 or 8.1 are not likely to EVER run at all on this system.

If the GEN4 with updated bios will take a pentium D 915 then it would work.

This system will however run Ubuntu 18.04.2 just fine.

Oldest Dell that works with everything is an Optiplex GX620 from 2006.

With Pentium D 915 to 960 it will run everything from MSDOS all the way thru XP / VISTA / 7 / 8 / 10

The Equivalent system in an XPS is the DIMENSION 9150 / XPS400.

Which you would not want to upgrade even though a 1080TI will fit and work in the system.

The oldest I can find for sale is much better and newer.

Its essentially the cost of windows 10 pro license.

Any money spent on OS, RAM, CPU for such an old system is a total waste of money.

That is a very old model manufactured in late 2004. It is not going to be capable of running new Windows builds and Windows XP is not downloadable moreover the Media Centre Edition was relatively rare so it'll be hard to find the XP Media Centre DVD on eBay.
