Drobo Nas external storage device issues

After ten years, and now the company went out of business, I am having issues with my Drobo. I am trying to copy the data off it, 15TB but it keeps getting hung up. Ones I finally do that is there a way to format the drives that were in the drobo? I removed one a while ago and I was not able to use it and I was unable to format for regular use.

If the device is 10 years old, the hard drive(s) inside has/have exceeded their lifespans by a factor of two -- since it's likely what is inside is a standard (Seagate, WD, Toshiba) hard drive, use the manufacturer utility to test the drive to see if it's still viable.

I have replaced the drives many times, the one's that are in there now are anywhere between 6 months and 2 years old.  I hot swap them when the device reports an issue.  I am retiring the device and it would be a shame if I could not reuse them, there are 4 4TB industrial grade drives in there. Thanks ejn63

What type of drives are they?  SATA or SAS?

They are SATA but designated as enterprise and designed to be used for NAS & RAID situations
