You can always disable SupportAssist so it doesn't load at boot. That will put an end to the nagging, until they find a solution for this kind of issue...
Microsoft update now has an optional update for the Intel Management Engine (2108.100.0.1053). This has successfully installed and Dell SupportAssist appears to recognise this as an up-to-date driver.
I tried running the Dell IME update, out of idle curiosity. It now runs successfully and leaves the Microsoft version in place. Who'd have thought that Microsoft would solve a problem!
Which CPU do you have? Be sure to include the digits after the dash, because that will indicate if it's 10th or 11th Gen CPU.
What version of BIOS is installed? The latest is v2.0.11
Are there any "unknown" devices listed in Device Manager? Be sure to click View>Show Hidden Devices on Device Manager toolbar, and then expand all the entries and look for "unknown".
@Joules J It's certainly possible SupportAssist is the problem here and is nagging you about a driver that's already up-to-date, but you'd expect Device Manager to list the updated version number....
This wouldn't be the first time SupportAssist has nagged about a driver that's already up-to-date, by a long shot. And that's why a lot of users uninstall SupportAssist and just look for new drivers occasionally, by entering their PC's Service Tag on the Support page.
And sometimes, an Intel driver doesn't install, and the installer says "failed" or "not compatible", instead of saying "same (or a newer) version is already installed.
You could go to the Intel Download Center, and install their Support Assistant. Let it scan your hardware and see if it offers you any new(er) drivers...
I tried installing a version of the driver from the end of last year. It said that the current one was newer.
As a test, I installed the old one anyway, having first deleted the device and run Microsoft Program Uninstall Troubleshooter to remove IME Driver and two copies of IME Components, I also removed Intel ICLS, which appears to be a part of IME. Having got a previous version number installed, I then ran the Dell update version 2052.15.0.2069, which installed the version that is currently listed in the Device Manager (2040.100.0.1029) and not the one indicated in the update notes.
I have looked at the intel download centre, it suggests an older version of IME and the Intel software did not identify any appropriate update. However, I found the page for the Driver Version currently installed, which says:
Purpose Installs the Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME) components for Intel NUC11PA. The Intel ME installer detects the Intel NUC capabilities and installs the relevant drivers. Driver version appears in Device Manager: 2040.100.0.1029.
I am not sure why it would be the appropriate driver but perhaps the package has decided this is the "relevant driver" for my PC. Driver version 2052.15.0.2069 does not appear on the Intel site.
Yes, I largely agree. It's just a niggle and untidy that the Dell SupportAssist has for some time been telling me this update is required. It even says that it has done the update successfully and then continues to insist that the update is still required.
The problem seems most likely to be with SupportAssist rather than the computer drivers as neither Windows nor Intel think an update is needed or even available.
Thanks for your thoughts and support Ron. Dell are in touch too and they don't have an immediate solution. I will post if they come up with one, if they don't post it here themselves.
I was asked to uninstal and reinstall Dell SupportAssist and the new installation is currently not asking for any further updates.
The IME driver currently installed remains version 2040.100.0.1029. It has not updated to 2052.15.0.2069 though the Dell site claims the latter is the latest and current driver for my PC.
Obviously nice that the issue has been solved for now.
I remain a little sceptical as to whether this is a lasting solution or going to be a recurring issue.
Yes, all appears to be fine at the moment having re-installed Dell SupportAssist.
As I've already said, the IME driver currently installed remains version 2040.100.0.1029. It has not updated to 2052.15.0.2069 though the Dell site says 2052.15.0.2069 is the latest driver for my system. In contrast, the Intel site says that the installation of 2040.100.0.1029 will install the latest appropriate driver. I am assuming the same applies to 2052.15.0.2069 and it has decided that 2040.100.0.1029 is the best driver. I wondered if that caused the issue for Dell SupportAssist but you may have some other way of tracking the updates.
Well, as kind of expected, four days after reinstalling Dell SupportAssist, it is back to saying that the Intel ME driver update is recommended and having run the update, SupportAssist continues to say that the update is recommended and the version number is unchanged as before.
It would certainly solve the problem (and raised a smile)... and then it would just create an issue around my utter forgetfulness to check for updates until it all crashes!
You could use "Microsoft Tuesday" (first Tues of each month) when Windows Update force-feeds Microsoft's latest updates, as a reminder to look for driver updates via your Service Tag.
Doubtful the PC will crash if you're not fully updated. Lots of peeps follow a rule of thumb to update BIOS, drivers etc, only if there's a fix for a problem they're actually having and/or if it's a security patch. And if it's a serious security patch, I suspect you'd get the update pushed at you via Windows Update faster than via SupportAssist.

So just uninstall SupportAssist again, and don't reinstall it... Simple solution...

Driver version 2040.100.0.1029
CPU is i7-10700k
BIOS 2.0.12, there has been a recent update which I installed yesterday.
There are no unknown devices listed in the Device Manager.
I am wondering if the issue is with Dell's SupportAssist and whether the driver is in fact up to date just not recognised as such?
