Since this depends on your model computer and video card, post your model and card. Look up your video card specs and find out what it supports. If you use integrated video, it doesn't matter about the monitor. You are limited to basic resolution even if you have a top of the line monitor.
Graphic design requires a fast computer with extra memory and a very good video card.

For professional work, it would be hard to go-wrong with the Dell UltraSharp u2719d ... it would work nicely. I own last years model.
