XPS 8100 BIOS Update
I am trying to update the 'detected' BIOS update via Dell but it keeps telling me to 'exits all programmes before updating BIOS' (with the spelling mistake)
The downloaded file is S8100-A05.EXE
Any suggestions as how to run the update would be appreciated
thank you

You cannot run a bios update that was designed for windows XP on a windows 8 or 10 machine because the windows defender antivirus will crash the update just after it erases the bios which will kill the machine.
Clean XP install with no antivirus software and Run as Administrator or Run from Freedos is the only way to do this.
YOU CANNOT RUN BIOS UPDATE FROM DOS WINDOW from within windows 7 or 8 or 10.

This is an old BIOS, from 2011. This is 8 years ago and if you are not having any BIOS related problems its best to not update the BIOS. A failed and corrupted BIOS update and the ONLY option on this model is to replace the motherboard (later models from around 2016 onward have BIOS recovery).
