XPS 8300, won't boot with new GPU
I've been trying to get my new GPU to work on my XPS 8300 and it's stuck on the Splash Screen. I know the card works because it didn't have any problems on my ancient Optiplex. The card is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZLFSMCR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Nvida Geforce GT 710
Anyway - I haven't seen a single solution to this for the XPS 8300 to accept a new video card. Please, if you know a solution please let me know.
I've already upgraded my PSU to 600watt, I have 16 RAM, i7 processor, 2TB HDD
THANK YOU!

The specific card is the issue. Its X4 not X16.
An upgrade that works without issue would be NVIDIA pascal based aka GT1030 GT1050 TI

1060 and up will need bigger power supply.

1080 TI works but full length versions will be difficult to fit.

Stuck on Dell logo means firmware preboot test is stalling. Remove new video card and connect monitor to on board integrated video output. If still stuck, could be hdd or something else is bad. If POST complete (passes Dell logo), install new card with proper technique and test again. Afaik there is no UEFI in XPS 8300 bios.

Yes it boots fine with the integrated video port and also boots fine with the original video card. I've loaded the driver disc that came with the new GPU. I've repeated these steps multiple times. It's a brand new motherboard too, I thought maybe that would solve the problem. I've seen multiple post about this, could it just be impossible to upgrade the GPU on the XPS 8300?

What version of BIOS is running on the XPS 8300? A06 is the latest. Did you clear BIOS after installing the new card by removing the motherboard battery and pressing/holding the power button for ~30 sec (PC unplugged) and then installing a fresh battery?
The card you linked is a PCI-e x8 video card. In theory, an x16 PCI-e slot should support an x8 card, but do we know if the XPS 8300 can support an x8 video card?
Several threads about upgrading the GPU in the XPS 8300, including this one about installing a GTX 1080. You can search for the other threads which offer different GPU upgrade options for this PC model.

It is possible to upgrade gpu in xps 8300 but I am not certain GT 710 is a significant upgrade compared to stock video card? GT is entry level. do you have another pc to test the GT 710? It is a 2016 card so more likely you got it used. we should verify this card actually works before blaming on 8300 which has so far given a stellar performance on its own according to your tests.

Thank you for this info! I have no idea what BIOS version I have, I'm not very computer literate. I just replaced my motherboard on Monday, so I assume it had a fresh battery. I installed the new video card in the machine at the same time I replaced the motherboard.
I'll try to upgrade the BIOS and the driver software mentioned in the link you sent me. I certainly don't have the need or money for a GTX 1080, but it's very encouraging that his 8300 was able to accept it.
I'll try the suggestions you gave me, thank you again!

Thank you for the reply - I got the card new from AMAZON, it came in a sealed box with driver disc. I did test the card on a Dell Optiplex 390, it booted up without any issues. So, I'm sure the card works. My stock video card in the 8300 is a 1gig, so I wanted a bit more because my computer was struggling to process some 3d models & CAD/CAM software. I have a sign shop, so I need to work with graphics but I'm not a gamer. I probably need a whole new computer, but I just don't have the money for that right now.

to check current bios ver., connect monitor to on board integrated video port,
it seems bios A06 is recommended by user who installed GTX970 in 8300.

And just because the motherboard is "new", doesn't mean the battery is new. Motherboard with the battery installed could have been sitting on a shelf somewhere for eons...
Even easier: Right-click Start>Run, type in: msinfo32.exe and press Enter. Click System Summary at top left and scroll down to see the version of BIOS in the right-side pane...

Did you ever figure it out?
I have the same problem. It will only boot if i have a display connected to the integrated VGA port. Changing the Auto Multiple Monitor setting in the boot SETUP program didn't help.
If I boot with a second monitor plugged into the onboard controller, it comes up and the new card will work perfectly. But it will never boot without something plugged into the VGA port. The old video GeForce card did not have this problem.
I installed the latest drivers for the new Asus NVIDIA 1650. The Dell firmware is A06, and it is Windows 10.
Any solution?
Thanks
