Best option is to use a USB connected drive.  The Dell hardware (chassis/case) is, in most cases, specifically configured for how it was ordered new.  Its why, even though I'm an old Dell customer, I have a home built desktop for my recording studio.  Dell's top line XPS model could not be configured, after purchase, to add what I needed.

The model with the drive has different faceplate.  I doubt dell sells this.

There is also a bracket that attaches to the laptop style drive.

My suggestion would be SPECIFIC USB 2.0 Drive which allows reinstall of windows on any dell.

This drive works with OEM System Builder DVD disk for reinstall on any dell that supports F12 booting of windows 10.

It also includes Cyberlogic Power DVD with playback codecs that are removed from windows 8 and 10 for the same cost as the software alone.

I agree with fireberd suggestion to go with the external drive. A standard half-height optical drive would probably have better performance than the quarter-height drive that comes from Dell.

I was sure it was too much work (especially since front bezel needed)...I'll just get an external usb. Thanks!

I have several SATA drives sitting around; will connect to SATA drive caddy or just buy an external one.  For what I need a cheapie will do.   Thanks!

Call Dell Small Business Support (you will reach someone in the US) and you can order the correct front bezel with a cut-out for an optical drive and the optical drive bezel.

5.25 inch optical drive does not fit into an 8930 so that suggestion is nonsense.

I also want to add an optical drive to my XPS 8930. I stupidly ordered it without the drive.

I have already accumulated the drive, drive bracket, drive bezel and the computer front bezel. I believe the only item I have not secured is optical drive cage or caddy A release lever would also be needed if it is not a part of the cage/caddy. The cage/caddy needs to accept  a slim, 9.5 mm drive.

I would appreciate help in finding these needed parts.

That is an unbelievable price for a dual layer optical drive. I think the only disk it cannot handle is blue ray.

Thanks for the heads up.
