XPS 8940, Event Viewer error, ideas?

Hey Guys,

Event Viewer error.. Any ideas how to fix / track this down?

I'm hearing random beeps on my system. Never heard beeps from any other system I've owned. In trying to track this down I'm led to the Event Viewer and I see this (picture). Any ideas how to track this down?

Thanks

I really hope not many read this “story”. Many on this forum know I recently got my XPS8940… and along with the process of ordering it and waiting for delivery I decided to clean my computer room (office). As the cleaning progressed I ran across two old laptop computers and a Logitech universal remote that were stored in the far back of a nice, built in, oak cabinet. I decided to charge the batteries so I laid them all in the corner of my room, out of the way, while charging. A day passes and the room is organized and looking good for the computer to arrive. The day before it arrives I turn on the laptop computers, do Windows updates, and put them back in the cabinets. I left the Logitech universal remote on charge as I thought I might use it again at some point. My computer arrives the next day (about a week ago) and I’m all over it – loading and upgrading software, deciding on a Display Port or HDMI to the monitor, attaching USB3 backup drives, and installing new mouse software (I use a trackball).

A minor tangent to the story; Not sure how many reading this will recall a TV show called the Beverly Hillbillies. But the theme song went something like this… “Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed, a poor mountaineer barely kept his family fed…” – sort of indicating this poor guy, with few skills, finds oil and becomes a millionaire. When I do stupid things I often think of this song and apply it to myself!

Back to the story; As I’m setting up the computer I’m testing hardware as I go, connecting the new WiFI-6, the new Bluetooth 5.1, and sure I have a few hiccup’s along the process, but nothing too bad. Then I start noticing a periodic ‘beep’. I know it’s a piezo speaker; I’ve played with these enough to know, and I’ll be darned if I can find the cause of it. Must be on the Motherboard! I’ve made some posts to this forum and got good suggestions on how to narrow down the possible program and cause of this Beep. It’s not consistent and I’ve had my head down by my system more than once waiting for this Beep – just so I can isolate it. This started happening after I got the computer so it must be coming from the chassis. Now you got to admit, this makes sense. I’m determined to find the cause but lot’s more software to install so I put it on the back burner, listening to it every day.

Finely, about an hour ago, I call my wife to come into my room to listen for this Beep.. and help me locate the source. I’m not sure when it will happen again and tell her she may be here for 10-15 minutes and as I’m describing the beep sound to her… it happens.. BEEP… Did you hear that? Yes, it came from over here.. as she points to the corner of my room – away from the computer. Now, I’m going to date myself here a bit, but I’m approaching 70 and my hearing isn’t the greatest – I don’t wear hearing aids yet but they may be in my future. This high pitched Beep is hard for me to locate, and it’s not too loud. There has never been a beep in my room before I got the computer.. so what else could it be but the computer? Well, she is pointing to the Logitech remote sitting the corner of my office and I look down at the display and it says, “battery low, please charge” – well, it’s on the charger but after years of inactivity, clearly the batteries are in need of replacement and too old to charge. I reach down, touch the remote and it beeps! That’s it, was not the computer!! Boy do I feel stupid – but we must be able to laugh at ourselves once in a while. Today is one of those days for me, but I’m so happy, no more beep; and my computer and software are running great! My Noctua fans and heat sink are ‘out for delivery’ so I’ll be putting these in over the weekend. Then, button it all up and actually start using the system for some serious video editing; and I want to get a game or two – I’ don’t play games, but want to play a few adventure games with nice graphics.

Hope you enjoyed this story!

@Colorado_scott If your Google search 'clsid 2593f8b9-4eaf-457c-b68a-50f6b8ea6b54' you will find that this is a common error and most recommendations are to ignore the error. • Thanks Vic. Never would have thought of that. I’m comfortable making qualified changes using Regedit so I’ll play with this a bit. Will teach me something about ‘taking ownership’.
    Thanks.
