XPS 8950, Intel wireless cards critical driver update error

Hi,

I am installing the critical drivers for a Dell XPS 8950. The second driver is the Intel "AX411/AX211/AX210/AX200/AX201/9260/9560/9462 Wi-Fi UWD Driver" for "Network, Ethernet & Wireless" released on "17 Oct 2022".

Is there an error with this driver? I am getting the following error:Intel-AX411-AX211-AX210-AX200-AX201-9260-9560-9462_KJDHM_WIN_22.170.2.1_A43_01-error.png

I also have the log file if that would be of any help.

It is shown as a critical update and will not install. How important is it to be installed and should I wait to install it before installing any other drivers/software?

Thanks.

Yes, Intel bought out Rivet (maker of Killer WiFi and Ethernet hardware), but that doesn't mean an Intel WiFi driver is compatible with Killer WiFi hardware.

Get in the habit of confirming the hardware named in a driver update's title vs your installed hardware before you attempt to update, even when a driver comes up with your Service Tag. That way you can avoid issues like this...

Since you have the latest Killer AX1675x WiFi driver installed on your PC now, all is good.

And if it ain't broke, don't break it...!

If your network cards are working, I would suggest you skip it. Sounds like a bad release.

In the log file it has "Name of Exit Code: ERROR_INSTALL_PLATFORM_UNSUPPORTED".

Is there any reason why it should not install for Windows Pro when the XPS 8950 had Windows Home by default?

Also, in Device Manager, I have an Ethernet Controller and a Wireless Network Adapter. When looking at the Events for both, there is a "Kernel-PnP" error.

My network cards seem to be working, but when copying a file via a network between 2 computers, the transfer is very slow. I just did a test and the speed was less than 4 mb/s for a 11GB file.

@SDCan  - Are you sure that Intel driver is the right one for your system? How are you selecting drivers to install?  Did you enter your Service Tag on the Support page to find drivers specific for your PC, or are you just trying in install all recent updates listed on that page, or are you using SupportAssist?

If you have Killer Wireless 1690/1675/1650 Wi-Fi that's listed, instead of Intel WiFi, Killer uses a different driver and you don't want/need the Intel driver. That might explain why it won't install.

Assuming the Intel WiFi driver is the right one for your PC, are you logged into an account with administrator privileges when trying to install it?  if you manually downloaded the driver .exe, right-click the file and select Run as Administrator...

I still see that same Intel driver listed, without using a Service Tag, so it hasn't been completely removed.

Do you actually have one of the Intel WiFi cards supported by that driver update?

Is the WiFi driver shown for your Service Tag now, the same version as is currently installed or...?

I have a Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX1675x 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (210NGW) and the manufacturer is Intel Corporation as well as a Killer E3100G 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Controller that has a manufacturer of Killer.

The WiFi driver shown for my Service Tag is 22.170.2.1 and this is the same as the driver that is currently installed.

@RoHe I was selecting the drivers by entering in my Service Tag on the Support page. By the end of yesterday, when letting Dell find suitable drivers it was not displayed. It is also not these now. So it may have been put up in error.
