XPS 8960, Service Tag cannot be processed for retail registration
I just now tried to register my brand new XPS 8960 and was surprised to receive this message:

Was I sold a used computer?
No Events found!

You purchased directly from Dell and the machine is already registered under your account, with a purchase invoice.
The process you are having error with is the registration for customer with a retail product, etc. purchases from retail stores, partner stores, indirectly from Dell.

You should be the original owner of this brand new XPS 8960. Support for XPS 8960 | Overview | Dell US.
If purchased from Dell, please revisit the Dell invoice to determine what should have been delivered. Within the first 30 days, there is Reject option, Dell Refund policy, New vs Refurbished | DELL Technologies.
Please click on Get Help Now icon on the Right Hand Side of this webpage and request Reject option. Remember to state your preferred option of full refund or new replacement system. There should be no restocking fee.
ASAP please Sign In to your online Dell account to create Service Request with the first line saying this is a Formal Complaint. Include your opening post information. Request escalation to senior Dell tier that is authorised to investigate and instigate your chosen Reject option. This usually takes about 10 working days.
