XPS8700 Ethernet problem
All of a sudden, I could not connect to my network? Nothing I tried worked. Resetting the driver, disabling/enabling the device, different cables, connecting directly through my ISP broadband modem, I went as far as installing the most recent version of Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. The Ethernet connection on my XPS8700 was essentially "dead". I tried diagnosing the problem using Dell ePSA but that does not seem to cover networking? Or at least, it is not reported separately. The only thing that "saved" me was a Windows System Restore. That did the trick.
Since then, I went into Device Manager > Network Adapter > Realtek PCI Family GBE Controller and chose Update driver. I let Windows "Search automatically..." and got a new driver version, that still seem a little "old"?
My question: should I bother "upgrading" the driver with the LAN version for Windows 10 found on this link:
https://realtek-download.com/realtek-pcie-gbe-family-controller/
The version of this driver is far "fresher" than the one currently installed on my system.
The driver version shown in the .INI file is DriverVer = 03/07/2019,10.034.0307.2019

Only if it was being offered to my machine from Windows-10 itself.
Don't assume any new drivers work 100% on your old hardware.
I thought you posted that you already found a 100% working driver and everything has been fine since? Is that not true?

Wanting to put this issue to bed, I updated to the latest version of the driver.
So far, so good?
This is what I have now:

If it is working, I would stop now.
Old machine like this, I would run whatever driver Windows-10 64bit tosses you (and says is current-best).
