@swehjo ,

I have a 2020-vintage XPS 15 7590.  The current BIOS version is 1.35.  I too manually search the Dell Support website weekly for both of my Dell computers, using my Service Tags.  That is how I got that BIOS update, and all of its predecessors.  I long ago got rid of SupportAssist and Dell Update from both of my computers when their warranties expired.

I would be very cautious about downloading a BIOS update version that does not show on the Dell Support website when you manually search via your Service Tag.  Do not let the Support site have Dell "Automatically find drivers".

Dell computers can and do change specs during the life of a model line, which may be why I have 1.35 and you have 1.27.  I would also urge caution because updating directly from 1.27 to 1.35 may cause major problems, if the intervening updates have not been installed.

Perhaps, @DELL-ChrisM2 could assist you if you sent him a DM with your Service Tag . . .  Do not include it in this topic.  Normally assistance on most Forums is not provided by DM, but your warranty will be long over, so it is a possibility.  I don't know the precise policy here offhand.

Good luck, and have a great day.

Regards,

Phil

Hi Phil and many thanks for a quick response. Yeah, I'm a bit reluctant to upgrade something this central that hasn't caused any issue so far (the TPM loss is now fixed and has nothing to do with the old version as far as I know).

When I do a manual search with my service tag or do an "Automatic find drivers", only the 1.27 turns up. The spec for the 1.35 only says "XPS 15 7590" and nothing more. I couldn't contact CrhisM2 directly. Let's see if he turns up here in the thread instead :-).

@swehjo

Håkan,

You would have to Direct Messaging enabled.  On the top right side of the Forum menu, it will look like a page icon, left of the Notification bell icon.  Not all users are granted DM privileges, so if the DM icon is missing, you do not yet have DM capability on this Forum.

I couldn't contact CrhisM2 directly.

You have misspelled his name.  It is @DELL-ChrisM2 .  It just changed in the last two weeks, I think, according to a post in the Dell Community Forums.  Before that it was @DELL-Chris M .  He might have been just posting a test post . . .

Yes, it is best to wait for some expert advice, from someone who would have access to your Service Tag configuration, but you will need DM access, which he could grant, as a Community Manager, to pass along your Service Tag privately.

Have a great day.

Regards,

Phil

I do not have any of the Dell driver software on my personal Dell systems. I uninstalled all of them to run a "cleaner" operating system. In fact, my Area-51 R2 desktop is 7 BIOS old. Why? Because it runs great.

I prefer to manually check the generic Drivers & Downloads page for my specific systems. I also never install a driver just because it is newer. I only install a driver to fix a specific issue. For example a video card driver to fix an issue in a specific game I am playing.

Yes, I see BIOS 1.35 on the generic XPS 15 7590 Drivers & Downloads page. When I click, "View full driver details", I then read the "Fixes & Enhancements".

I think that most of the DSA are not needed for me so choose to ignore them.

The only one I would look to for you is =
Fixed the issue where the restart pending is displayed as true in the PowerShell. This issue occurs after you clear the TPM and then run the get-tpm command.

But, if you have never cleared TPM and never run the get-tpm command, that "fix" is not applicable to you. So my advice would be to stay on BIOS 1.27.

Hi @garioch7 ! I was just lazy when I wrote about his address in my post ;-).I clicked the link in the earlier post and came to his page but when clicking Direct Message I always was thrown back to the forum main page. I assume the Dell guys really appreciate direct contact like that. And I understand them :-)

@DELL-ChrisM2 That is normally how I run my PCs as well, with a clean install and a few Dell drivers based on trial and error. Command update gives me a hint when certain drivers may need to be looked at. I'll stay on the 1.27!!! Thanks!
