Brightness controls do not affect brightness

For the past couple of months, I have been having issues with my brightness. When I use the brightness keys or change it in settings, the levels change on the indicators, but my screens brightness does not change. In order to change the brightness, I have to set it to the level I want then restart the computer. All of the most recent updates are currently installed.
