You can safely assume it is a Dell issue. I removed SupportAssist from both of my Dell computers because it was causing issues, particularly with its OS recovery component. When Dell Update started pestering me about an irrelevant Killer Update for my XPS 8930 SE, I removed it as well, using Revo Uninstaller Pro from both of my computers.
Now I just go to the Dell Support site weekly, enter my Service Tags, and make sure to select "This PC" when searching for possible driver/BIOS updates.
Both Dell software apps have good intentions, but the implementation is seriously flawed by times.
