Dell XPS 13 9300 : CPU Failure Code During Boot
Hi! I have a Dell XPS 9300 running Windows 10 that is around 1.5 years old. A few days ago, I attempted to reboot my computer but was met with an unresponsive screen and the front light giving me the CPU Failure Code (2 Flashing Amber, 1 Flashing White Light).
I was very worried. However, I just tried holding down the power button until the blinking stopped and then restarted and it booted just fine. I thought it may be a one-off glitch, but the same thing happened today when I rebooted as well.
I ran everything on Dell SupportAssist and it didn't pick anything up. Also ran my Windows Defender and got nothing back. I took a brief look through Event Viewer but wasn't sure how to interpret it and didn't find an easy answer as to what may be going on.
Would I be able to get some tips on what this may be and/or how to fix it? My thinking is that I may have a hardware failure (which would be tragic because my last XPS 13 had a hardware failure just after warranty after only around 1.5 years as well). I am not under Dell Warranty but have BestBuy warranty still. However, I am a computer science researcher and this device is my livelihood, so I would rather get by with this new reboot procedure (if everything else continues to work) than send it in for possibly weeks before I could get it back.
Thanks!

Unplug the system, shut down and remove the base cover.
Disconnect the battery from the system board and hold the power button for 30 sec.
Then reconnect the battery and restart. If the problem continues, the mainboard will need replacement, so having the warranty is a good thing -- it will be quite expensive (just about everything inside the system other than the RAM and SSD are on the mainboard -- unless it's the 2-in-1, in which case those are as well).
Be sure you have a current backup -- particularly if you have the 2-in-1. If the board fails, you will lose everything on the system.

Vote for this fix. I found many people saying this help, even though removing battery cable might be beyond average customer skill. and it might void the warranty. Please handle with care.
