Dell XPS 15 9570 faces random shutdowns

Question

Hello, I have a Dell XPS 15 9570, and since last month I am facing random shutdowns. I tried to search a little bit for the problem, but I was not able to identify the issue. Setup Charger is plugged in No demanding task running Result Laptop shutdowns Power button does not work, until I remove the charger When it is opened, keyboard has light, after some seconds the light closes and after some seconds it opens again. This pattern happens for some time. Screen seems to be turned off all this time. I try multiple times to turn the laptop on, until I manage to do so. It is like the laptop needs some time to be 'discharged' Hardware checked for malfunction: Change SSD --> Issue still there Change RAM --> Issue still there Cleaned all fans, checked if they are working properly I did Dell's hardware check, but no error Extra information I checked in BIOS, and in Power Events I see the following logs: 'Power Off - ASF2 force off' 'Power On - Not applicable' In BIOS Events, I see the following logs: 'Invalid configuration information - please run SETUP program' 'Time-of-day not set - please run SETUP program' No Thermal Events Up to now, this issue has not happen if the laptop is in battery. I have searched also event viewer for any indication, but I didn't find something that pinpoints an issue. Also, in order to produce some load, I tried some game benchmarks but with no luck. The laptop didn't shutdown. It is a little bit frustrating, because the guarantee expired a month ago  . Any help will be really appreciated! Thanks!

This sound like the computer coin cell battery is failing and needs replacement. I had those same errors in my all in one desktop, computer keep shutting down often. I end up replacing coin cell battery, no problems at all, no more random shutdowns. Now my coin cell battery was easily replace unfortunate, you have to do a lot of work to get to it in your computer - see Service Manual in link below):

Rebooting or shuting down ? Is it doing it properly ? like a normal windows shutdown or you get a black screen in your face out of nowhere ?

I have the EXACT same problem you described. I still haven't found a solution but I've narrowed it down a little bit:

NOT Battery or charging ports: I've taken out the battery and ran the laptop only on the charger or docking station (USB-C), same abrupt shutdown (sudden no power black out)

NOT Charger: Bought a replacement OEM dell charger for the laptop, same black out after a few minutes

NOT BIOS/other driver updates (as of 4/5/21): Updated everything according to dell support section.

I've read a few people had their motherboards replaced and STILL had this problem so I'm hoping it is just some weird software issue that can be easily fixed. PLEASE post if you find a solution for this.

I feel sorry that you face the same issue.

The only positive thing in my case, is that when working on battery the issue does not happen.

What I cannot remember is if the issue started after the latest bios update.

Be sure that if I solve the issue, I will definitely post it here!

Another thing I also observed is that the issue happens when the charger is plugged in and I try to do an update (tested with windows update and dell update).

I tried to do the update when the laptop was in battery and the issue did not happen.

Hello,

The problem was actually the motherboard. I sent it to Dell and they replaced it. Unfortunatelly, my warranty had expired (one month before) and I had to pay. Currently, the laptop is operating smoothly. I will monitor the system for some time, and I hope not to face any other issue.
