Driver power state failure

Dear members of the community,

I have the Dell XPS 15 9570. Recently, maybe a few months ago, I started to have the blue screen error that reads Driver Power State Failure. It happens randomly. Sometimes as an omen of bad luck, my mouse freezes (both the BT and touchpad) while everything works, and then after a minute, I get a blue screen error. Sometimes everything freezes, and I get the blue screen. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but I have updated to windows 11. I had no such problems when I used windows 10. I have also tried to look for this information online, but it did not conform to my exact problem, so I did not have luck finding the answer. My problem happens not during the sleep mode, but anytime, for instance, the laptop can crash while using Word. I have tried to reinstall the system, but a clean install of Win11 did not help. Please help me to solve this problem, as it really disrupts important work tasks. Thank you very much.

Sadly I'm still having this problem with my xps 15 9570.

First the cmmputer is very slow for 5 minutes and then crash with the driver power state failure...

I don't have Adobe Photoshop or Davinci, and I was still having the problem, until is stopped crashing for unknown reasons.

Interesting. I have not had the issue resurface. I updated my windows 11 in the meantime and all seems well. Maybe there’s an update you haven’t installed yet that fixed it?

I haven't had the problem in a long while.  I think the last firmware update fixed the issue, but I can't be certain, since nobody ever really figured out the issue to begin with.  Make sure your system is up to date.

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem, 3 to 4 times a day.

As recommended by @honzk, I disabled "Intel Turbo Boost Technology" in the BIOS and it worked for me (no more crashes for 2 weeks). I also disabled some other random features like:

Intel Speedstep

C states

Hyperthreading

and Intel Speed Shift

(yes, a very scientific approach)

I hope this could help someone else.

I have just had this issue today for the first time. I am not running Windows 11, still on Windows 10. It is an older XPS, c.3 years. XPS 15 9570. Cannot attribute it to anything specific, will see if it continues to happen.

this is happening frequently to mine with windows 10.

Had the same problem, found a fix via BIOS-Settings

I had precisely the same problem as described on my Precision 7530 with built in NVIDIA Quadro P3200 GPU. For quite some time my system crashed when using some GPU-heavy software, first a mouse/touchpad freeze where keyboard controls such as tabbing to other windows where still working for a couple of dozens of seconds followed by a BSOD with the prominent "Driver Power State Failure" Error.

The problems occured consistently in AVID Media Composer and DaVinci Resolve after some minutes of use, and I think it's plausible to assume that Adobe Software would have failed likewise as others have reported. I use Capture One for Image Processing which did not fail.

Initially, I figured that power settings caused some trouble, since fiddling with high-performance mode and even removing the internal battery seemed to improve the situation to some degree, however I never got rid of the error alltogether.

I tried multiple versions of GPU drivers but to no success. I even did upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 while having the error, but the situation remained unchanged. Clean driver reinstall via the aforementioned Display Driver Uninstaller DDU also yielded nothing.

I finally tried to reconfigure the BIOS-Settings and by
- checking Discrete Graphics Controller Direct Output Mode
- disabling Intel Speedstep
- disabling C states
- disabling Intel Turboboost
i got rid of the error. No crash at all of Media composer and Resolve even under stress and prolonged use.
I kept Intel Speed Shift Technology and Hyperthreading on without problems.

So together with honni_ experienced, the culprit may lie in the Intel TurboBoost Control, since Intel Speedstep should not mess with the GPU.

I have exactly the same issue and error. It has started recently as of June 2023.
I have not even upgraded to Windows 11 and running on Windows 10.

My PC conf:
Model          : XPS 15 9570
Processor   : Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-8950HK CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz
RAM             : 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)
Sys Type     : 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

DELL, please pay attention; this is becoming an issue and results in loss of data as it happens w/o warning. I suspect this is not Windows11 or Hardware issue but some recent s/w update.

Thanks

It may occur when your computer is going through sleep mode for a long time not only once but several times. If blue screen is seen there may be a fatal issue related to graphics card or a wifi adapter. I guess this onformation may be useful.

I have the exact same issue just started yesterday with my XPS 15 9510. Passes all the hardware tests. Have tried the settings that n.lipski mentioned. 15 minutes in and seems to have helped. But seriously DELL what the bloody top tier i9 is going on here?
