dwm.exe process crash when using dell pen on extended screen

Hello,

The following callstack in dwm.exe process causes a crash (occurs several times), before you cannot extend the screen anymore

Windows 20H2 fully updated, using DELL command

FAILURE_ID_HASH:  {1253aecc-520d-655b-58e3-5eb61e209188}

Dump uploaded here: https://ufile.io/uvc1c1vy

!gle returns

LastStatusValue: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000022 - {Access Denied} A process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights.

Any tip solving the crash is welcomed

Thanks

Kostya

Hello,

Issue has been resolved after upgrading to the latest Windows version: 19043.985. (21H1)

Currently there is no appropriate handling of cases by Dell support, when it comes to software compatibility issues with Microsoft.

My suggestion to people adopting new hardware by DELL, you should expect things will not work 100% of the time using new hardware and should wait until things gets stable (year or so)

There is no escalation for consumer users, so if things are not working and you are stuck. (with suggestions like reinstall windows at your expense and time)

One positive note: support was quick to respond.

Thanks

Following back and forth for several days, support does not escalate my issue for the developing team and I am still with a solution to my problem.

I would urge anyone acquiring XPS 9310 2-in-1 and intend to use the pen, reconsider since it does not work properly and causing crashes in dwm.exe (affects your windows interface)

Since the issue does not get escalated, it will not be solved! (unless RND will check the dump file of dwm.exe)

Support suggested to reinstall Microsoft Windows, instead of reproducing the issue in house with their top advertised laptop.

Well I did, and it still did not resolve the issue.

A brand new laptop with a significant software flow, and I was told to reinstall Windows - instead of reproducing the issue in Dell QA or collecting logs for analysis by RND.
