First thing to try is to increase the Size of the display to 125%. That might be all you need to do. Open Settings, Display to increase it.

It works a little better, i think, but the program boxes are now too big .  How can i reduce them?

It's still not working very well - better than it was, but still sore to look at after a few moments.  Do you have any other suggestions?

Is it the actual size of the font? or brightness/contrast?

Have you tried the angle of the screen?  I find more or less brightness depending on the angle on my laptop.
