Failing to install win 10, drivers missing

Hi,

Just received an XPS 13 9310 with Ubuntu pre-installed. Intended to install Win 10 on it and be on my way, but spent the past 2 days failing to do so.

It seems that it is a common issue for XPS laptops to fail to recognize some part of the hardware and Windows being, well, Windows, gives no information as to which driver it is missing. The Intel Rapid Storage seems to be a common identified culprit though.

Things I've tried:

https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-13-9380-Windows-10-install-missing-media-driver/td-p/7381912

https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Another-year-another-try-missing-media-driver-on-windows-10/td-p/7548246

Extracted all of https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000182433/xps-9310-windows-10-driver-pack onto a second drive, most are deemed "incompatible" by Windows, save for a few. All of the ones in the "storage" folder are not compatible.

Tried these (extracted ofc) https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19512/intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-installation-software-with-intel-optane-memory-10th-and-11th-gen-platforms.html, no better.

Tried to modify my boot.wim (successfully) and install.esd (unsuccessfuly) to bundle the drivers with DSIM, but I can't get an install.wim from the install.esd. Error 13, data corrupted (another great windows error message).

Contacted Dell Support through who basically told me off "Your purchase a device with Ubuntu, no support for Windows install, bye".

Yes, secure boot is disabled, as is RAID (AHCI/NVMe is enabled). I'm using an accessory with USB 3.0 ports for the USB keys, as I don't have USB C usb keys. Thunderbolt options are enabled in the BIOS. The M.2 PCIe SSD is found in the BIOS as well.

Any idea?

Windows insiders build detected the SSD without any further need for drivers.

Thanks all.

@xps13user28

Strange that your manual describes the option???

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/xps-13-9310-laptop/xps-13-9310-service-manual/system-setup-options?guid=guid-685a2d6d-ce82-41e6-865e-e37f2ebc4e9f&lang=en-us

NOTE: For Secure Boot to be enabled, the computer needs to be in UEFI boot mode and the Enable Legacy Option ROMs option needs to be turned off.

When you go into the BIOS by using F2 at boot, you do not see this option?

Regards,

U2

You either need to disable RAID (IRST off) or pause the Windows 10 install to load the Intel RST driver.

It's not there, looked everywhere. There is only "enable secure boot" (tried both enable/disable, no change) and "boot mode: deployed or audit" (tried both, no change).

Thanks for your suggestions though.

RAID is off by default and the RST drivers won't load (see first pic in my original message).
