HP HDMI out not working on monitor DP in?

I am unable to connect the DELL LCD monitor from the DP port to my HP Laptop with HDMI port. The Dell monitor has DP, VGA, DVI-I.

The laptop has only an HDMI out port and USB port.

I have used a DP to HDMI adapter and get the message:

There is no signal from your computer. Press any key on the key board (which I have done) or move the mouse to wake it up (done). If there is no display, press the monitor button now to select the correct input source on the On screen display menu (done). No success.

The solution to this problem:

I used the HDMI port on my laptop and connected it to the DVI-D port on the Dell monitor, which works now.

Well you can do is well check  for any physical damage on your port  it can also cause this kind of issue as well.

Hi,

Yes, that is possible, however, I have been told by the computer shops that the DP to HDMI adapter will not work for this. They said to buy the HDMI to DP port - which is not available in any of the shops at the moment.

PS this has been going on for two weeks now....

* Correct. A PC HDMI out cannot upconvert to the newer standard monitor DP in port.

* The adapter you bought is only designed to do this =
PC DP out port --> DP to HDMI adapter --> Monitor HDMI in port

Your only recourse was to get an HDMI to DVI adapter or HDMI to VGA adapter.
