Spotify continues running during restart

I'm befuddled by this and looking for an explanation.  I had Spotify running on my XPS 9700 cast to the sound system attached to my Sony Bravia.  I received a message from Dell about a software update, so I went and downloaded, then installed the update.  I was then asked to restart the laptop to install the update, which I did immediately figuring I'd lose the connection to the music but it kept playing.

The laptop went black then rebooted and I got the sign on screen, music never missing a beat.  Can someone explain how this can happen.  I've been out of technology for close to 18 years now but that just wasn't possible in my day.

I saw a thread the other day in the Microsoft forum where a system doing modern standby was using an excessive amount of battery power while in low power mode.  That person was also using Spotify but this would happen with YouTube also.

My though with that situation is Spotify might make some change to your system which allows it to continue to run in low power mode.

In your situation, since a reboot leaves some components in a prior condition, you might try shutting the system all the way down to see if it continues to play.  But normally, you or Windows will shut down all open applications before it reboots

I just restarted mine with Windows Media Player running and it was shutdown, as you might expect.

it is because you have selected a setting which auto start when it turns on
