Warning: The battery is not recommended battery
I'm extremely happy with my five year old Dell XPS 13 L322X laptop. Really fast and reliable. Much faster than my wifes one year old Lenovo that has a i5 in it.
So, I decided to replace the battery in my Dell XPS 13 L322X as it was five years old and only holding a charge for a tad over 2 hours, sometimes less. So I got a new one off eBay and it is the exact one that I took out of the laptop.
Problem is, when I turn on the laptop, I get black screen that says:
Warning: The battery is not recommended battery. The system will
unable to charge this battery. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run setup the utility.
So I go into F2 setup and it says:
Battery Health: This battery is performing normally.
So I then hit F1 which takes me to the normal laptop home screen.
Everything works normally and the battery charged to 100% very quickly.
So it does work fine, but I still get that warning screen anytime I turn the laptop back on.
Then I noticed that when I turn the XPS laptop on without the charger, the message does not appear... it boots straight into windows. Did this several times, with and without the charger, same thing... No message at startup with AC unplugged, but when AC plugged in, get message at startup. I've used this charger with no problems with the last battery, so why now. It's charging just fine. Dell OEM 45W AC Adapter Charger P/N is: 3RG0T
So what's going on, how can I get rid of this message at startup all the time?
startup.

When I got it, it booted with the same warning. So this one not OEM either.
It works without the warning if not plugged into AC charger, but when plugged in then I get this message:
"Warning: The battery is not recommended battery. The system will
unable to charge this battery. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run setup the utility

The maximum time the battery last with a slide show running the whole time is a few minutes under 3 hours. I completely ran the battery down that way and it recharged very fast. Running it the 2nd time with a slide show running the whole time and it ran for 4 hours 31 minutes before it shut down! Ran it the 3rd time and got 5 hours 23 minutes before it shut down.
Shame on Dell for trying to force you to pay over a $100 for their battery when Newegg's works just fine for $45 (shipping & tax included in price).

Well, like I thought, DELL don't have a clue!!! Heck... I don't have a clue as I tried all kinds of stuff like updating my BIOS, resetting the laptop by pushing the on/off button for 30 seconds... removing and reinstalling the battery several times. etc. I can't be the only one with this problem.

Maybe it just looks like the exact one you took out? AFAIK Dell doesn't sell these (it is often a problem getting one for more recent models from Dell service), and most of the ones sold at eBay or Amazon seem to be fakes - but it may be really hard to tell.
Have you contacted the seller? Mind returning a li-ion battery by mail may be a challenge.
Generally, if you can't get the original straight from the device manufacturer, it may be a better idea to pick a replacement claimed compatible from a reputable battery brand than an "original" from a questionable source.

I thought for sure there would be a way to bypass this at startup, which is caused by a chip on the battery (or lack of one). Tried all kinds of stuff. Too bad as it works fine. Charges fasts, lasts almost five hours etc. Just can't get past that startup screen!
Dell quit selling parts for some time now as this laptop is in it's sixth year now. It's been a wonderful laptop, just needed longer time than 2 hours for the battery. I got what I thought was the best one off eBay, good seller rating, 30 warranty etc: (Paypal is very good on returns)
Product Details from the eBay one I got:
Genuine Dell OEM Original Laptop Battery for the Dell XPS 13 (L321x) Ultrabook Laptop and the XPS 12 (9Q23) convertible laptop.
Then there are these two... Newegg has a good reputation right?

This company is recommended on this dell site from I've seen for parts, but expensive!

How come none of the Dell "Experts" here knew how to do this?
After a week of research, I figured this out myself. I came to Dell forum thinking I could get some help. I'm thinking maybe Dell didn't want me to figure out how to make a aftermarket battery work... 'eh?
