WD19TB "Your dock fan has failed"

So upon start-up or reboot I started to get a odd message about my WD19TB docking station.

After further research I found the following community discussion. However the solutions provided was not helpful. So I just took a leap and popped the problem into the chat.

The person (Vishal) from the Dell Social Media Team was truely helpful and he even spoke to some of his colleagues and they recommended that I just carefully use pressurised air and clean the fan.

What I did is to turn the device around and loosen the screws and removed the cable assembly so that the pressurised air and dust can flow right through and out of the device. I then carefully blew air onto the fan and the ports etc. There was quite a bit of dust that came out of the fan and I suspect that dust also covers the electronics and then the thermometer measurements get inaccurate causing the issue.

Since I cleaned the dust out of the device the problem was resolved. Hope this helps someone and I think this specific dock requires a good cleaning every couple of months.

Cheers!

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Hi

The problem still exist and cleaning as recommended by the team also did not help to solve it. Still get the error message and the fan run for hours at full spead and drives me mad from the loud blowing noise it makes. It is still under warranty. I'll contact the help desk.

Thanks!
