XPS 13 9343 touchpad issues

The computer is about 3.5 years old, and up until a few weeks ago, the touchpad worked perfectly. The scrolling and tap to click still works well. However, recently the mechanic click functions (right click, left click, highlight text, drag and drop) have stopped working for the most part. I called Dell tech support and they said they thought it was a software issue, so I tried to fix it on my own. I have already restarted, did a full scan for viruses, installed updates, updated the touchpad drivers, and even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. None of that changed anything. When the mechanic click functions do work (only a little bit of the time) they are not very responsive, not as accurate, and I have to press way harder than usual to get any reaction.

I read this might be a swollen battery, but the touchpad hasn't popped out, which is what usually happens with a swollen battery.

Has anyone had this problem, and were you able to fix it?

Remove the base cover and check the battery.  There's so little clearance between it and the palmrest that it takes very little to interfere with the touchpad clicks.

If the battery is at all swollen (and check both sides) dispose of it immediately.  These can swell rapidly and easily turn a $100-150 battery replacement into a much more expensive problem.

I had same issue in my XPS 9350 (similar chassis)

I ended up replacing the battery and the issue was fixed. The problem was a swollen battery
