XPS 15 9550 Battery replacement
Hi everyone, Unfortunately, only now has this issue showed up on 3 laptops that I have. Unfortunately, all of them are outside the warranty. Does Dell still replace the batteries? If not, are these still sold by them? Best regards.

Those batteries are over 2 yrs old now. They need to be replaced now in normal use and are no longer under warranty or recall. Batteries can swell and get hot at end of life especially that batch. Since the massive recall/replacement is over now, it is impossible to find real Dell replacement batteries. Those are out of stock at Dell and will not be restocked. There are some being sold online but those are not the original batteries and there are many complaints about them not working. Lots of scams too. The best thing to do is remove the battery and dispose of safely away from your home and use the adapter alone until you can replace the laptop. Other manufacturers had the same problem with those batteries.

Contact Dell service. Warranty may indeed be over. But any reasonable laptop manufacturer should have replacement batteries in stock for laptops that were widely sold less than 3 years ago. Remove the batteries safely ASAP because they are an increased hazard. I believe manufacturers should be more cautious and provide means of battery swelling early and disconnect them automatically. I am sure it is technically possible.
