XPS 15 9570 booting problem
I've had my laptop for the nearly two years. Recently I started to use an external monitor that I was connecting to my laptop with HDMI.
After using this new setup for some time, at one point laptop simply could not boot anymore. When pressing the power button everything seemed to be fine (keyboard was lighting up, fans were spinning, and so on), but the display was always completely dark and after 10~20 secs the laptop was shutting down.
I've done many things trying to fix this, such as unplugging the battery and plugging it back in, triggering BIOS recovery (CTRL+ESC, same result), booting with or without battery. POST checks seemed to work fine - when e.g. I removed RAM, laptop was blinking out the proper service code after turning on.
The thing that eventually fixed the problem was resetting the BIOS - removing the coin-cell battery and putting it back in. I did that after few days of keeping the laptop on the shelf.
The laptop was working fine for the next ~2 weeks, and then - yesterday - the exact same problem occurred again. I've repeated the actions just as before, but this time without any result.
There's one thing that I did this time differently than any other time - I was booting the laptop with external monitor plugged in to the power source and to the computer itself. I don't usually do that, I plug the monitor after the OS is loaded. I have a strong suspicion that I've made a similar "deviation" when the issue happened initially.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
I've completely run out of ideas, I would appreciate any input.
Thanks

Update January 11 = I've followed the RTC reset instruction and it fixed the problem. After configuring the clock in BIOS, laptop is now working completely fine.

Hi all,
I have identified exactely the same problem. My XPS9570 has strange boot problems with an attached 4k-HDMI-Monitor. The problem seems to be different very now nd then but those are the effects with the attached Monitor switched on and connected:
- some times long delay (>30 seconds) then normal boot
- some times same delay, then boot but the external monitor has no picture, its "flickering"
- some times no boot at all, only reset helps
All software and drivers are up to date. My workaround: Disconnect the external Monitor, boot , then connect it. This works but I think its not the best for the connector. I posted this in the german section but Dell´s response was "out of Warranty".
