XPS 15-9570, color banding issue

Recently got this xps 15, but am dissapointed by the ridiculous amount of color banding on the monitor. All the blacks are pixelated and crunchy. How do I fix this?

Noted. We have escalated this again to our Product Engineering Team. We will keep you posted as soon as we have an update on this.

I had three calls and one visit from Dell Support and guess what: THE PROBLEM IS FINALLY SOLVED!

The problem is, that windows or other apps fail to switch between intel gpu and the graphic card. I tried everything and noticed, that the banding wasn't noticeable, when you deactivate the intel gpu in the device manager. Dell replaced my mainboard, but the problem was still there.

Here's the summary from Dell support:

Uninstalling the Intel Graphics Driver with the Device Manager Method

Open the Device Manager by following the steps specific to your operating system:

Search for the Intel graphics driver.

Right-click the Intel video driver and select Uninstall.

Select the Delete the driver software for this device check box.

The system must reboot to complete the uninstallation process.

Install the Intel Graphics Driver

The best way is to search for the driver on the Intel homepage or on the Dell page.

After the manual driver installation, the problem should be solved.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/de/download/27803/Graphics-Intel-Grafiktreiberf-r-Windows-10?_ga=2.8661493.1323158574.1527882374-252919103.1527882374

The cause ; a driver problem

Problems with the graphics card driver can result in image errors or poor graphics performance. With other drivers, there is a risk that the device will not function correctly or at all. In addition there are error messages of the operating system, crashes, or unstable applications. The performance of the operating system and its stability suffer most from outdated or faulty drivers.

Thanks for posting this.

The link for the driver is however not valid.

Do you mind reposting the correct link please?

Thanks

I'm a XPS 9570 user too, i have the same issue from the day that i bought this laptop.

I'm watching all those posts in this forum since December 2018 and i'm trying to figure out what i have to do, to see properly the colors in my 4000$ laptop. But the is no solution.

I still use the 1.5 BIOS firmware update because is the only stable version with right colors. All the other updates have issues with Intel drivers and the color management.

If i reset my setting in Intel's Graphic control panel every seems without banding but very vibrand, every other change that i will do in this panel or in dell premier color the colors get fixed but the banding is unacceptable. It's like 8bit colors.

You guys in Dell you are playing with us and with our money, i read all these months you are suggesting some solutions that there are not right, you create new updates fixxing other issues but not the most important and you have the expectation that we will buy again a Dell product.

My next buy will be a Mac laptop, even if i dont like MacOS but you know why?

Because if apple has the same issue, which apparenty effect all the laptop devices, the internet will collapse with all there critics for "apple banding issues".

But now with Dell maybe because Dell XPS users became a very small percentage of Dell laptop owners you dont really care to solve our problem and dont respect our money.

Sorry DELL, i was very enthousiast with your products but now i think that this is the last device that i bought.

Hope to find solution as soon as possible so you can keep you premium users satisfied.

Have a good day,

Peter.

Straight to the point, Peter. I already talked out two of my colleagues of buying XPS a month ago and both now have macbooks. All I had to do is just show them this 8bit image quality on my laptop and couple of threads like this one, demonstrating the actual level of support Dell provides to the customers nowadays.

ClipSkills's method does work for me. My color banding did go after I uninstall the intel graphic drive. But in my case, the driver just reinstalled itself after reboot.

Hi p-gian,

Thanks for posting and for sending your service tag information.  Apologies that your system is not performing as expected. I see you have been doing some troubleshooting with other members of our team.  I don't see where a systems diagnostics has been performed.  If you haven't already done so, please perform a systems diagnostics, paying particular attention to the video testing.  Please make a note of any error messages encountered and post back.  Next your post says you have a video of the issue.  If you have either a pic or video, could you please post it on a web hosting site and send us the link to review?

Guys, sorry but i dont pay 4000$ to trying to figure out what is going on with this device.

I have tried everything but there is nothing that is work perfectly without worring for any windows update...

I was using my XPS 9570 for a year now with 1.5 BIOS version and now suddenly windows 10 update it for me into 1.8.1

Even if i downgrade it again to 1.5.1 then again update it for me to 1.8.1

Also Dell has not inform microsoft that 1.8.1 is by far 4 firmwares update before.

Finally, in one year you have release 15 BIOS Updates without to resolve the most important problem!

I also have this problem ,it's no way to fix it. the support help me replace the monitor and motherboard today. And it is useless also just found out the monitor they help me replace today actually damaged at the edge. This problem really disturbs me  .  when i watch a movie ,it's terrible. I paid this much money not to found out what caused it. And the support don't have enough knowledge to solve the problem. I told the support team a lot of people having the same problem with me. They just ignore me. Never use dell again. i just wish i can just have my money back,or get replaced with other dell laptop. it almost a month. i don't even bother now.12.jpgjust one picture to show how terrible it is

Dear DELL_Cares,

Several posts above your people confirmed that the problem exists. It exists for everyone who is owning XPS (at least 9570) with latest software installed. You are 1001% aware of it. Even most ignorant person can understand this just by reading this thread. I'm not even talking about many another threads like this one.

So please, with a cherry on top, please stop asking people here (like you asked p-gian right above) to provide you with some logs, details,  do some diagnostics, etc. You already have all the details. I've already asked you several times to pick ANY XPS you have, and provide WORKING BIOS + Ohter graphic drivers configuration. Just set up your own lab and fix it there ASAP, bring the image quality back to normal, as it was back in days with BIOS 1.5. That's it.

Stop playing with so many people, because this becomes really offensive and mean.
I still don't quite understand how come you still not paying back for all the spent time and work people weren't able to do on the device having absense of relevant support from your site for such a long time.

A few days ago, after my first post on this topic, Dell moderator send me a message to help me out, after a few messages he ask me to explain again my problem.

Then i sent him a full review of my problems with my DELL XPS 9570.

I share with you my message to read it and tell me if you have any issues like me.

"Hello BabaK,

Sorry for the dealy, i was very bussy those days.

So, i have to say first of all that i'm a graphic designer and a photographer. You can realise how important is for me, the resolution and the accurate colors into my laptop.

I bought the Dell XPS 9570 with full specs in December 2018.

I done all my updates including BIOS update 1.6 and the issues began...

First of all after a month i have a lot of disconnections from the wifi and problems with my bluetooth devices.

I called Dell Greece and they come to my house and replace wifi/bluetooth card and that problem dessapears.

Also, after the BIOS update, colors became so saturated and contrasty. But if i connect my laptop with external monitor, in the external monitor everything looks perfect and in my laptops screen not!!!

I google it, i find several topics with this issue and i finally downgrade it to 1.5 and everything works perfectly.

After a few weeks another problem appears...

When i have turned off my laptop and i was pressing the button to open, sometimes (maybe once every 2 weeks), it doesnt respond at all!!!!!!

I have take a several video of this issue if you want to send it to you.

I was trying everytime to press the key a lot of times, for a few seconds long press, i close my screen open again and try to open it again, i was plug off all my devices (USB, Thurderbolt, Charger) trying... nothing... and after a few minutes of trying it just opens!!!

That was happening for a long time... and i finally figure out that is smth with thunderbolt.

Since then i just plug it off every time that i turn off my laptop, and i havent seen this problem any more.

One day on May i try again to update the BIOS, because i have seen that there are several updates, i try them again but nothing happens...

A few days ago, i formated my SSD for a clean setup and suddenly windows 10 they install for me BIOS Update 1.8.1 and even if i downgrade it, they install it again and again. and the dell premier color don't work correctly.

If i choose from Intel Grephic control panel the colors full then the colors look saturated and contrasty, if i change anything in this app or trying to change smth in dell premier color then i see screen banding in blacks espessialy (like 8bit image quality)!!!

It's unacceptable that you dont solve this problem for a year now. You don't respect our money and our time. I pay Dell 4000$ to give a laptop with the perfect screen and specs. I didnt buy this product to trying to figure out what is happening!!!

I'm lossing money and time with all this situation!!!

Please find a solution for all of us.

I'm waitting for your responce,

Panagiotis."

I think that you just playing with us.

If you read carefully my message i'm writing that:

"

I have take a several video of this issue if you want to send it to you.

So the videos that i have is from another problem and not the screen problem.

Also system diagnosis doesn't find something goes wrong.

The problem is between the screen and the graphic drivers.

All those users tell you the same thing, BIOS 1.5 works perfectly with the colors.

I have no reason to be a computer IT to solve this problem, this is your job and you have to fix it.

You thank me for the detailed description but i think that you didn't read it carefully..

I clearly said in my description that the videos that i have, are from another problem with the power button!!!!

This problem possibly fixed with the new BIOS update, because it has more than two months to appear!!!

My current problem now is only with the resolution and the colors!!!

p_gian,

Thank you for your response and apologies for the confusion.

To confirm my understanding, the only issue with the system as of now is with the screen resolution and colors, right?

Could you confirm if you have updated the latest graphic drivers while the system is running on BIOS version 1.6 or later?
