XPS 15-9570, continuous LCD flicker

My machine is around 6 months old and was running without any problems until today. While browsing on Google Chrome, the LCD started flickering continuously at a very high frequency and hasn't stopped since. The frequency is quite high which makes it quite difficult to look at the screen for a long time and also is difficult to record on video. Also, there are some weird vertical multi-colored flickering lines which start from the windows search bar and chrome taskbar shortcut and extend all the way to the top of the screen as shown in the image. When on lock screen, these thin vertical lines are spread throughout the length of the screen. All graphics drivers and BIOS are up to date. The LCD flicker is much worse than the image below suggests.

HI I have exactly the same issue. Did you manage to find a solution you could possibly share?

Kind regards !

I have exactly the same issue with my XPS 15-9570. Dramatic flickering and long vertical bars stretching up the screen from UI elements on the taskbar.

Also, not mentioned above, there is an extreme screen burn-type effect, so for instance UI elements will still be on the black 'Dell' screen when you restart. I think it's artifacting rather than actual screenburn as it suddenly comes and goes.

As everything is fine when connected to an external monitor I'm pretty sure it's a monitor rather than GPU issue. It would still be good to know how others resolved this, e.g. does the screen need replacement or is it just a loose internal cable (LVDS, eDP or whatever)?

Run a screen diagnostic (hold the D key through powerup).  If the same fault shows, the display assembly needs to be replaced (the cable disconnects only from the system board -- the other end is fused inside the display assembly, so it's not separately replaceable.

Thanks, I seem to have the same error when I do that so I suppose I need to replace the display assembly.

For anyone that had this issue, it was indeed the display. As I was out of warranty I had to pay to have the assembly replaced. It was quite expensive but I will say the service was very good - the Dell engineer arrived with the part the next day and everything is working as it should so far.

It's probably a problem with the display's TCON or its COFs. The symptom is clearly the absence of voltage on the display. It could be that the VGH or VGL track has been cut off in one of the COFs. However, the complete absence of the VGH prevents video completely (we're talking about just one COF), or internally in the display towards the side ICs. In short... very difficult to repair if you want to save the display without replacing it. In very few cases, it can be repaired.
