XPS 15 sleep issues

Hello.

Windows 10 Pro 1809.

When Modern sleep mode was enabled, laptop wakes up when disconnected from docking station.

If look to event viewer i can see two events of kernel power:

power source change, event id 105

right after this another event

System wake up - AC/DC Display Burst

Then laptop goes sleep on timeout, when i come to my room i get laptop from backpack and it was hot.

I tried to investigate, tried send laptop to sleep and see if it sleeps or not.

Found another bug, when i press the power button it goes to sleep. Seems ok, then i closed the lid - laptop wakes up, in the event i found kernel power - system returns from sleep connected reason - lid.

If i set sleep on lid close it works, i press power it goes sleep, i close the lid and it does not wake up. Or i close the lid, and it goes to sleep.

But this is no good when laptop is connected to power supply, cause sometime i want it run with closed lid, and if send it to sleep with lid opened it wakes up on closing the lid.

And this option is not configurable MS do not recognise i close or open the lid, it sees lid event and wakes the laptop.

Ok i disabled conected sleep mode thrue registry.

And when it wakes from sleep, bluetooth completely disappears, but appears if send it back to sleep and wake it up manually.

This situation about sleep mode is annoying.

Hello, regarding put laptop into backup, when i have put laptop into backpack it was sleeping, but than awaked.

Sleeping is still powered on. So you placed a powered on laptop into a closed, hot backpack. Turn it off. DELL-Admin

Hi Maledict

I see the forum moderator finally approved all your images.....

I going take a guess here and say the problem is with WIFI (card) driver(Killer ?) …..

I'm hoping one of the knowledgeable people here on this forum, can take a look at all your images and be able to offer a solution to your problem. ….

I have tried to reinstall drivers a number of time

February 26th, 2020 17:00

I have exactly the same problem on a Latitude 5300 ever since I got it September last year. The problem is solved after I uninstall the driver provided by Intel and use the Windows built-in driver instead, but Windows Update automatically installs the new Intel driver and the problem returns. I have tried installing different versions of the Intel driver from the official Intel website and various sources, but none of them solves the problem.

In addition, it's not just the wifi driver that's waking computer up from sleep, the Ethernet driver e1dexpress is doing that too. The Windows event viewer reports every few seconds an event ID 27 with contents similar to "Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (6) I219-V The network is disconnected" (I translated this from Chinese so I don't know what the exact original English message is).

The battery drain from constantly waking up from sleep is really unacceptable. Please find a way to solve this. Thank you!

I have the same issue with XPS 9570 with killer wifi. it causes crazy overheating especially when the lid is closed, it can damage the device!

I couldn't find a solution yet.

these sorts of problems never happen on a mac!

I have a new 5501 laptop and am having the same issues. It essentially makes the laptop unusable if not plugged into a dock. I frequently have many open projects and cannot shut my laptop down each time without considerable effort. After spending two hours troubleshooting, I ran across this post.

Dell please work with Intel to get this resolved.

Same here. XPS 7590. It behaved fine until I reset to factory and installed Windows 10 from scratch. At some point after that (early April 2020) this problem started occurring. The laptop is continually waking from sleep, the fan running loudly and the left side of the keyboard is hot. The only clue is the 7025 and 7026 event logs for Netwtw08. They occur constantly.

I ended up changing the Win 10 registry to allow me to see the power management tab in the device manager. I then unchecked "allow this device to wake computer" on both of my network adaptors (1219-LM ethernet and 9560 AC wireless adaptor). Once I did this, my computer was able to go to sleep.

There is definitely a driver issue because having the "allow this device to wake computer" should not prevent the laptop from going to sleep. Before I made the changes, my laptop would never go to sleep. Afterward, it has been going to sleep fine for the past week.

I hope this helps..

Hi, yes after turning modern standby off, bluetooth really does disappear after sleep. After being annoyed (not just me) by this problem for months, I came up with a solution today.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/ge7f7v/solution_xps_15_7590_disappearing_bluetooth_after/

EDIT: Oh and changing the wifi card to Intel 9260 didn't work - same problem. You probably have to do the above until Dell fixes it

On our systems, we found the WiFi Driver is defaulting to Wake the computer, bringing it out of Sleep.

In 'Device Manager', Open the 'Properties' for the WiFi Driver, and select the 'Advanced' tab. Change 'Wake on Magic Packet' to 'Disabled' and 'Wake on Pattern Match' to 'Disabled'.

More Advanced:
If these settings don't fix the issue, look up how to turn on the Power option for the Driver to directly disable "Allow this Device to Wake the Computer" - which is available in a hidden 'Power Management' tab or a hidden option in 'Power Options' (This process is a bit more technical and more work to describe here.)
