XPS 9360 - new SSD

Hi, i have a XPS 9360 and would like to replace the internal Toshiba SSD with a bigger one. I would go with a Samsung 970 Nvme M.2, but I see there are 3 different versions: 970 pro, 970 evo, 970 evo plus. The difference in price is pretty relevant, so which one should I take? Are they all compatible with my laptop? Would i benefit of the extra speed of the pro version or they will work the same in my laptop? Thank u a lot

@Giak  there are multiple confirmed cases of people using the Samsung 970 SSDs in the XPS 13 9360, so you’re fine from a compatibility standpoint. In terms of differences between the various 970 versions, there are a lot of review articles that will go into detail there, but basically:

- The Evo is the mainstream version.

- The Evo Plus is a somewhat faster version of the Evo and worth getting over the Evo if the price difference isn’t significant.

- The Pro uses a different type of flash memory that allows it to have higher write endurance and faster write performance under sustained, heavy write loads. The Evo models have fast write speeds as long as you don’t fill up their write buffer, but after that they slow down a bit. But unless you expect to use this SSD in a way that it will be subjected to very large, sustained write activity, the Pro would be a waste of money. The Evo is by far the more popular choice for most consumer use cases, and its lifetime write endurance is still vastly more than just about anyone will ever write to their SSDs.

Thank you for your assistance.

I just got a 970Evoplus SSD. Now i am having troubles about cloning my internal HD to the new one. I purchased also a USB case adapter for NVMe M.2, but the laptop doesn't recognize the new external drive... Why? How should I do to have an exact copy of everything in the new drive? Please help me....

Thanks

Instead of cloning, use Macrium Reflect Free to save an image of the hard drive to an external hard drive. Then restore the image to the new SSD. Guaranteed to work.
