XPS 9520 BIOS 1.26

Upon upgrading my XPS 9520 BIOS to the latest 1.26, I lost the functionality of the keyboard illumination. Instead of being able to adjust the backlight using the function key the keyboard would only light up in the 'dim' setting or not at all.

Downgrading back to 1.25 solved the issue.

Same thing happened this week on XPS 9320 when upgrading BIOS to 2.15.0.

I had the exact same issue and solution. Upon upgrading my XPS 9520 BIOS to the latest 1.26, I lost the functionality of the keyboard illumination. Instead of being able to adjust the backlight using the function key the keyboard would only light up in the 'dim' setting or not at all.

I posted earlier that downgrading to the last bio version solved the exact same problem, but I have since had to reload windows from scratch due to a nasty BOT. Now DELL won't allow me to downgrade my bios. Do I wait for a fix or work towards finding a way to downgrade?

Hi everyone,

The new BIOS 1.27.1 does not address the issue and is locked for downgrading as it contains security patch.

We'll keep you updated once a new BIOS that addresses this issue is available.

If you have upgraded to the latest BIOS and are experiencing issues, contact Technical Support by clicking the blue "Get Help Now" button in the bottom right corner of the screen. They will first verify your ownership and warranty status. Then, they will provide the next revision of the BIOS based on the “Dell Pre-Release terms.”

Note: Once you agree to the Dell Pre-Release terms, it may take up to 48 hours to share the file with you.
