XtremIO cluster reuse

Appreciate your help on this

We have a XtremIO,  used,  planning to decommission and reuse for different purpose.

What are the decommission process we need to take to ensure data is completely wiped ?

Thank you,

Hello krishsna1213,

In most cases you should not have any issues since you are using the factory image.  In some case I have seen that a customer has had some setting that did not clear when they redeployed there system and didn’t erase all there drives.

The steps in the document do more than a factory reset but it is your environment, doing the extra steps is not required to repurpose.

Thank you for the response

we did a factory reset already.  Does it require any additional data erasure process ?

Cluster will be moved to another DC and repurpose.   Please suggest ?

Hi,

Thanks for your question. https://dell.to/3fLNwg0 has a procedure for secure data erasure.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Per Vendor,  The factory reset involves just  reimage Storage controllers to 6.0* version.

No additional steps performed

Is it ok to deploy cluster and use for production use at the current state ?   Part of the cluster setup are the drives get formatted and stores new writes or any additional actions required.

Thank you Josh

Hello krishsna1213,

It is best to upgrade to the latest version prior to putting in production.  You can put it in production with the factory image that is on your system.

Thankyou.  We are running at later version so it will be upgraded

To confirm,  Data erasure process is not a mandatory step to reuse the cluster ?

Hello krishsna1213,

It is best to do the data erasure to ensure a clean deployment, but you can repourpose without doing so.

Hello Sam,

Good Morning. Another question,  Data erasure procedures currently available are not compatible with latest drive hardware deployed.  said, require couple of months to update the scripts with needed.

What are the complications in redeploying the array ( After decommissions,  reimage SC's) with out data erasure.
