Dell Article to troubleshoot No Power, No Post, No Video

This is a great article that will take you through step by step

The very short of it:

clear flea power (diconnect power, hold power button 10 seconds, release, plug back in)

remove all external compnents (flea power again)

Strip system down (Flea Power again)

if still doing it when stripped down, it is likely a power supply

Hope this helps

Power supply, a blinking amber power button LED, usually indicates a failed or failing PSU.

First, try opening the case and check that all the power connectors are properly connected to the MoBo and the drives.

If the above does not fix the problem and you are comfortable around computers, you could try the following to test the power supply.

Unplug the cord from the power supply, hold the power button in for about 15/20 seconds, open the case, unplug the 24-pin power connector from the motherboard and jump the Green wire to one of the Black wires, reconnect the power cord and power the system on, if power supply fan and hard drive run, then the PSU should be good.

Note: Do not remove any wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a jumper.

The 5100 does not use a Dell proprietary power supply, most standard ATX power supplies with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, can be used, you need a power supply with two SATA power connectors. You should be able to buy a replacement power supply from a local or online computer store.

The instructions for replacing the power supply are here.

What is the sequence of the diagnostic LEDs at the front panel of the case?

This

is Dell's D-5100 diagnostic guide.

I'm sorry, but I don't see any diagnostic lights on this desktop,,,I also don't get any beeps.
When I plug in the cord, I am getting the orange power switch led blinking in unison with the green hd led...the powerlight on the mb lights up as well, but the fan and drive do not power up.

As the power supply seems to work and the system still does not work, again remove the power cord, hold power button in for several seconds to discharge the residue power, make certain the 24-pin connector is connected to the motherboard.

Remove all the PCI cards, the video card [if applicable], memory, all peripherals, disconnect the data and power cables to all the drives, check that the front panel cable is connected to motherboard, with nothing else connected to the system, reconnect the power cable and power the system on and see if you get any beep codes or diagnostic lights on the front panel.

If there were no beep codes or diagnostic lights on the front panel, then it would seem that the motherboard is bad and should be replaced.
