T7500 adding an SAS drive

Hi folks I have an SAS drive that has some information that I need to clean off of it and the PC it was in was destroyed. I just picked up this workstation The T7500 that seems like a great machine and the specs say it has support for SAS drives on one of the sets of SATAn connectors but how do I actually look it to the motherboard for the OS to see it  (win7 pro 64bit ). I have really not pain much attention to hardware so i'm a little fuzzy about what is compatible with what these days.  The drive is supposed to have a single plug for power and data and there isn't one in the machine that I can see. is there a cable I should be picking up to make this work?

Hi Javelin X,

The SAS ports are labelled HDD 0-3 on the Motherboard (circled on the pic).

There is no "spare cable" in the Motherboard for a SAS connection, you will need to purchase the cabling. The Dell part number for the cable is M135R

Thanks!

That's great information. Will the OS see the drive when it comes up or are there some additional drivers that had to be installed like if it was an add on card the drivers had to be streamed in when the OS was installed.  I'll call dell with that part number and get the cable on the way.

Make sure that the SAS Controller is enabled in the BIOS:

1. Press F2 at the Dell logo to enter the BIOS

2. Expand Settings and Click on Drives

3. Click on  SAS Controller  and choose "Enable"

4. Click Apply and Exit

That way the SAS drive(s) will be seen by the O/S

If you're installing the O/S on the drive then you might need the pre O/S driver installed during the install process.
