I HAVE A DIMENSION 8300 AND IM WONDERING IF THERES A TEMPERATURE SENSING PROGRAM SO I CAN MONITOR HOW HOT THINGS ARE GETTING. IM NOT TO SURE WHAT MOTHERBOARD I'VE GOT.

The motherboard does not have a temperature sensor, so software will not help.  There are means by which you can measure temperature on the motherboard using third party hardware.  Do an internet search to find such devices.

Of course it has a temperature sensor :P How do you think the system knows when to shut down if it gets too hot? Or when to speed up the fans when you're stressing it?

Just a matter of wether or not Dell wants you to see them

If you used a 3rd party BIOS flash, you sure could. I wouldn't trust em though...

The sensors are physically not present.  A third party BIOS flash cannot physically install a sensor that is not present on the motherboard.

Intel CPUs have a built in temperature sensor to shut down the CPU when it overheats.  Some motherboards have a sensor that allows you to monitor the temperatures through software.  Dell motherboards, however, do not have that sensor.

Ok, I think we are talking about apples and oranges here.  Yes there is a sensor on the fan that monitors fan speed.  But, the sensors present in various locations throughout the computer are not the same as the temperature and fan speed sensors on Intel motherboards that allow you to monitor the temperature and fan speeds through software.  The monitoring takes place through hardware and is only reported internally.  The original poster was asking if there is a way to monitor these things through software.  On Intel motherboards there is.  On Dell motherboards, which do not have the same sensors as Intel motherboards, there is not a way to monitor the temperature and fan speed through software.

How do you explain the Variable Fan then? At least, please, oh please, explain that?

So, the next logical question is "What third party hardware are the previous posters referring to?" and "How do I implement this hardware to monitor the temps in my 8300?".

See the following:

Other's have been suggested on these forums, but I really don't have time to search and find them myself.  Perhaps you can try a advanced fourm search or use google to search the web to find these third party devices.
